Oak Hall ended the 2016 track and field season as the 1A state champions after finishing third in 2014, and runner-up in 2015. The Eagles return a majority of their squad as does 2016 runner-up Holy Trinity with the likes of Giana Gayles, Elizabeth Bacon, and Samantha Folio. We take a look at the top 1A girls teams heading into the 2017 season.
The Westminster Academy boys are coming off a 1A cross country state championship, the first in 28 years. They hope to duplicate that success on the track this season as the top returning team in 1A and hoist the championship trophy for the third time since 2014.
Some of the smallest schools made some of the biggest waves at the 2016 FHSAA state track meet at IMG Academy over the weekend. The Admiral Farragut boys and Oak Hall girls took home team titles. Farragut boys, after the girls team won the 2015 state meet, made it their first team title in the school's 85-year history. Much of that can be attributed to the exploits of sprinter Alex Gray.
Admiral Farragut and Oak Hall finished 1-2 in the team standings in 2015. Our 1A virtual meet has the results flip flopping this season with the ladies from Gainesville bringing home the trophy.

Holy Trinity and Oak Hall have finished in the top three at the 1A state meet the past two years. Oak Hall was third in 2014 while Holy Trinity added another title to their storied program. Last season, it was the Tigers missing out on the podium and the Eagles soaring to a runner-up finish. These two rivals look to battle it out again this spring.
The First Academy boys finished 6.5 points behind Westminster Academy in 2014 and a mere half point off the top spot again in 2015. Needless to say the Royals are hungry for the team title and will rely on a well balance attack and core nucleus from that runner-up squad. Jahquez Durham (sprints), Allen Wiggins (throws), and Jonathan Griffin-Heard (hurdles/pole vault), along with the relays have the most potential to score big points. Maclay has a very strong distance squad and the classifications top pole vaulter in Darin Meeker and will give them a run at the top spot.
Admiral Farragut senior Hunter McCann is the sixth fastest returner in class 1A. McCann was 27th last year at the state meet and owns a personal best of 16:22.15 from the 1A Region 3 Championship. We caught up with him to talk about how he started out in the sport, his outlook for 2015, and much more in this XC Spotlight.

The First Academy boys were 1A runner-up last year behind Westminster Christian and are slated for another close battle in 2015. On the girls side, Admiral Farragut is the favorite in our virtual meet to take down the first team title in school history. See what our virtual meet has to say about the individual and team battles in 1A!
The Melbourne Holy Trinity team has had a stranglehold on Class A Region 3 for the last few years. The Holy Trinity boys have won the last three, the girls, the last two. Thursday ushered in a regime change in Region 3 as the BlueJackets won both boys and girls titles.
The decision is in for Admiral Farragut senior Brittany McGee. One of the state's top hurdler/jumpers and defending state champion in the 100 and 300m hurdles has decided to commit to Stanford University.
I have been running track for the majority of my life since first grade and now I'm finally a senior! It's crazy to think that I will be done with high school so soon. Something that most people wouldn't really guess about me when they talk to me or see me is that I've gone to a military school that I board at five days a week since I was a freshman.
In between coaching Albert Wieringa snapped over 150 photos from the Calvary Invitational. Check out these awesome photos including this one of Evangelical Christian pole vaulter Drew McMichael in action!
The middle school athletes are the future of our sport. Tom Connor was on-site at the flrunners.com Invitational 15 shooting most of the back part of the course and the final turn to the finish. Check out over 2,000 images including this one of Admiral Farragut's Patrick McNamara has he sprints to the finish in the boys small school race.
The 2014 Class A state finals might not have gone quite as well as Admiral Farragut's Brittany McGee had hoped. She only got in two jumps in long jump on a wet track and she injured her ankle during the 300m hurdle final and both hurdle marks in the 100m and 300m were off her personal best of the season. Still, McGee took home a third place medal in long jump and she was still plenty better than the rest of the field in the hurdle events, winning both.
