Hunter Wampler has fought for years to be in the position he is in now. While he competed for Winter Haven High School, he never broke 18:00 minutes in the 5k, he never broke 11:00 minutes in the 3200, but the dream of competing at the collegiate level never left his mind.

Providence senior Danielle Dunn has had a successful career in North Florida. As a junior she helped Providence win the 1A cross country state championship. She followed that up with a runner-up finish in the 800 at the 1A state meet. Recently, Dunn announced she will head south to Boca Raton to run for Florida Atlantic University.

Friederike Feil won the women's 5K for the second consecutive week, this time at the Stetson Hatter Invitational in a school record time of 17:33.Feil broke her own record, which she set more than two years ago, by more than two seconds. Her performance helped the Owls' women's team to second place out of the 14 teams at the event.The team was without the services of Rebecca Hallam, who got some extra rest in advance of Sun Belt Championships.

The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams both finished 5th at the UM King of the Hill meet on Saturday.Josh Wolfe was the Owls' high overall finisher, placing 6th in the men's 5K in a time of 16:49. Ryan Toledo finished 12th in 17:06. Jordan Dopkins' time of 17:47 was good enough for 28th place. Neil Coffman (18:02/33rd) and Eric Dansky (18:04/ 34th) wrapped up the scoring for the men. Rising senior cross country senior Friederike Feil set the school record in the 3,000 meters at a meet in her native Germany over the weekend.Feil's time of 9:52.77 was good for 11th place in the event and broke Raynell Hagberg's previous record by nearly 10 seconds. It is Feil's fourth school record in either cross country or track.

Toyria Mattear won the conference championship in the 400 meter hurdles for the second time in her career at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend.Mattear narrowly won the race, edging Roshunda Pierson of North Texas by one one-hundredth of a second in a time of 1:00.17. It is the second time she won the conference title in the event, claiming it in 2008 as a sophomore. Mattear also placed fourth in the 400 meters at the meet.

Ashani Roberts' triple jump title highlighted the Florida Atlantic track team's performance at the Alumni Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami.Roberts' leap of 39 feet, 6.5 inches was good enough to take the title by nearly a foot over the second place finisher. Toyria Mattear ran well at the meet, finishing 6th in the 400 meter dash and 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles. Mattear's time of 1:00.46 in the hurdles is best in the conference this season and came in season debut in that event.

The Florida Atlantic track team will head to the Alumni Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami this weekend.The Owls won two event titles at last season's meet, with Friederike Feil winning the 1,500 meters and Toyria Mattear winning the 400 meter hurdles. Mattear's time was also good enough to qualify her for the NCAA East Regional. Mattear was the first Owl to qualify for Regionals last season, eventually being joined by Feil.

Helen Mann recorded a personal record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Florida Relays over the weekend.Mann's time (11:48.20/20th) in the event set a personal record by more than 15 seconds and is the third best time in the conference in that event this season. Lisa-Marie Leutner also ran well in first meet of the outdoor season, finishing 22nd in the 1,500 meters in 4:38.97, her time is 4th best in the Sun Belt this season

The Florida Atlantic track team competed at the UCF Invitational in Orlando over the weekend.Helen Mann finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, in of 12:03.66. Patricia Gumbs also finished second in the 800 meters in 2:10.43. Both times are personal bests and the best in the conference in their respective events.

The Florida Atlantic track team finished 6th the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend.The high point of the meet was Patricia Gumbs' victory in the 800 meters. Gumbs' time of 2:11.59 was good enough for first place by more than a second over the runner-up, Vasity Chemweno of Western Kentucky. Gumbs was also part of FAU's successful relay teams, helping the 4x440 relay teams to an eighth place finish as well as being part of the 5th place distance medley relay team.

The Florida Atlantic University track team opened its 2010 indoor season at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville over the weekend.Jennifer Holly set a school record of 3.52 meters in the pole vault, tying for fourth place. Rebecca Hallam won the women's 3,000 meters in a time of 9:55.66, setting a personal record in the process.

Lisa Leutner finished 71st at the NCAA South Regional hosted by the University of Alabama over the weekend.Leutner finished 11th among freshmen at the meet, completing her first 6K in 22:24.97. Friederike Feil began the race but was forced to stop halfway through the course due to injury.

Lisa Leutner finished 12th in the 5K in 18:56. Charlene Luxama set a personal record (19:32) while finishing 20th. Katie Quick (19:37/23rd) posted one of her best times of the season. Toni Jackson (19:52/29th) rounded out the scoring for the women. Helen Mann (19:57) closely followed in 30th place. Valerie Dixon and Vanessa Penates both set personal records while running unattached.

Florida Atlantic University cross country runners Trey Andrews and Friederike Feil were named Sun Belt Conference Runners of the Week.Andrews was FAU's high male finisher at the Disney World Classic in Orlando, completing the 8K course in 26:09.00. Andrews has been FAU's leading male runner at every meet so far this season.

Trey Andrews was once again the high finisher for the men, placing 4th in the 8K in a time of 26:09.00. Stephen Dassin (26:47.70) gave FAU two runners in the top 15. Ryan Davis (27:10.70/24th) ran very well in the 8K. Jordan Dopkins (27:53.30/45th), Josh Wolfe (28:12.30/55th) had a good showing in his first collegiate meet. Mohammed Razib (29:19:10/93rd) rounded out the field for the Owls.

The Florida Atlantic University cross country team returns to action this weekend at the Mountain Dew Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida. Lindsay Lucas and Taylor Reeves were the high finishers at last year's meet for the Owls. Lucas finished 14th in the women's 5K in 18:41.45. Reeves completed the men's 8K in 25:55.72, breaking the school record in the process.

Florida Atlantic University head track and cross country coach Alex Smolka and cross country runner Eric Dansky recently returned from the 18th Maccabiah Games in Israel.Dansky finished 5th in the men's 10,000 meters and 6th in the 5,000 meters. He was also the top American and was 4th overall with a mile and a half to go in the half-marathon when an injury forced him to withdraw.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Florida Atlantic distance runner to its All-Academic Team.It is the second consecutive year that Feil has earned the honor, which is restricted only to athletes who qualified for NCAA Regionals. Feil qualified for NCAA Regionals in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the third year in a row.

Rising senior Friederike Feil once again set a school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, this time at the German National Track and Field Championships over the weekend.
