The 2017 FLRunners.com Invitational is less than two months away, but it's never too late to check out our virtual meet feature and see which girls athletes and teams entered have the best shot at winning.
We take a look at the 25 best 2A girls teams heading into the 2017 season.
As part of our Saucony Flo 50 rankings series, we take a look at the top 25 boys and girls individuals as well as the top 25 boys and girls teams and rank them. Here are the top girls teams after the cross country state championship.
The top five returning teams from the 2016 Cross Country Finals all made the podium including top ranked Pine Crest in 2A and Niceville in 3A (pictured above). The Panthers lose only one girl in their top five that ALL placed in the top 20. That group consisted of three freshmen and one 8th grader! Niceville loses two seniors, but will rely heavily on roster that includes three seniors, a junior, and a sophomore in 2017. Chiles, Bolles, and 4A champion Steinbrenner round out the top five. North Marion's Leigha Torino and Hernando's Trevor Foley won the 2A Region 2 Championship individual titles. On the team side it was the Trinity Prep boys who won easily with a score of 21 points, while the Montverde girls led by 8th grader Kendyl Cardwell and 7th grader Lily Henne narrowly won with 57 points over Tavares (63), and Trinity Prep (69).
It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.

Montverde freshman Ciara “Pepper” Hopkins, a track and cross country runner for the Eagles, has been ranked as the No. 1 female triathlete in the country in the 15-and-under age group by USA Triathlon for the 2011 season. (via Central Florida Varsity the Blog)
