The Miami Northwestern Lady Bulls continued their dynasty in Florida track and field with their 9th straight state championship. Coach Carmen Jackson's squad tallied 157 points over 100 more than runner-up Northeast. They are the clear favorite in class 3A with 2016 runner-up Northeast a near lock to repeat in that position as well.
43 points was all the Chiles' boys track team needed to win their third straight 3A state championship. The Timberwolves lose thrower Cole Upthegrove to graduation but return both Jordan Poole and James Hansen as well as a talented group of distance runners. Creekside and Miami Northwestern should also be in the mix, but don't count out Miami Norland who now have transfer Tyrese Cooper's, one of the most dangerous sprinters in the country.
The American Heritage boys 4x100m relay team of Marco Wilson, Khalil Herbert, Patrick Surtain, and Anthony Schwartz set the bar high for the rest of the state's teams when they ran 40.95s to win the Pepsi Florida Relays. Coral Gables and Columbus came close with times of 41.13 and 41.14, while Northeast and Pine Forest clocked 41.20 on the nose. Check out the top 500 boys 4x100m relay teams for the 2016 season.
Despite getting a tough lane one assignment for the invitational boys 100 at the Mobile Challenge of Champions on Saturday in Alabama, Pine Forest's Marcus Reaves simply used the position to his advantage.

Discus co-state leader Jobi Finau has announced his college decision. The senior from Pine Forest, hurled the discus 189-6 at the FSU Relays a mark that was later matched by Fredrick Jones at the 4A Region 4 Championship) and went onto finish second at the 3A State Finals. He says the recruiting process was stressful, but with several offers to choose from he decided to sign with the University of South Alabama.
Niceville was one of a handful of north Florida schools to make the trek to Mobile, Alabama for the Mobile Challenge of Champions at St. Paul's Episcopal High School. The Eagles showed the other state's in attendance how Florida does it. Coach Jamie LaFollette says they go to the meet each year for a number of reasons.

Pine Forest senior Johna Whitaker and Hillsborough senior Jeremiah Green are this week's Athletes of the Week. Whitaker tore up the hurdles at the Mobile Challenge of Champions. She finished second in the 100 hurdles with a state leading and US#5 time of 13.73 finishing second to Kendell Williams of Georgia. In the 300's she posted another state leading time and US#5 mark of 42.42. Green set new personal bests in the 100,200 and long jump, as well as winning the triple jump to score 40 points for Hillsbourough giving his team a conference championship. Four days later, Green leaped an outstanding 52-1.75 to set a new personal best, and US#1 mark in the triple jump at the Florida Relays.
Four for four. Those are Pine Forest alumni and current South Plains College sophomore Darroneshia Lott's statistics from the NJCAA Indoor National Championships. Lott anchored the school's winning DMR and then took home individual golds in the 1,000, 3,000, and mile.
A year after competing in the Sunshine State, Pine Forest alum Darroneshia Lott and Wekiva alum Jovan Davis are representing host South Plains College in Texas at the NJCAAA Nationals.

CANYON, Texas - Freshman Darroneshia Lott took top honors at the 2011 West Texas A&M Buffalo Stampede contested at the Don Harrington Camp in Canyon, leading the Lady Texan cross country team to a runner-up performance in their first meet of the season. Lott, a native of Florida, completed the 5,000-meter course with a time of 19 minutes, 3 seconds. (via www.spctexans.com)

The Godby boys and Pine Forest girls won back to back team championships in 2A and 3A respectively, but their season hasn't stopped there. The track and field teams received some good news this week regarding the post season. Both squads earned an invitation to the prestigous Nike Nationals in Eugene, Oregon at the end of June.
After completion of all events, the Eagles have earned 59 points and their second consecutive Class 3A state track championship. Miami Jackson finished second with 51 points, and Tallahassee Chiles finished third with 43 points.(via www.pnj.com)
