Perez, O’Riordan, End Seasons With Win At North Florida JV Championships Zack Bias Oct 24, 2014

Thursday evening, high schools from around North Florida, traveled to downtown Jacksonville, to compete in the annual North Florida JV Championships at Bishop Kenny. The stakes were high, as for most of the athletes; this would be their last race of the 2014 season. The weather was absolutely perfect and many runners found themselves leaving with a new PR.

Scouting Report: Bishop Kenny Boys Zack Bias Sep 10, 2014

In 2013 the Bishop Kenny boys finished as runner ups in the class 2A State Cross Country finals. This resilient finish was quite unexpected, given the injuries, and setbacks the team had to face all year. However the Kenny boys lost three important members of last year’s 2nd place squad, the key loss being 2013 2A State 1600m Champion, David Yarborough. The Crusaders have a long tradition of excellence; however they will likely be fighting an uphill battle to return to the top in 2014.

2A Boys Team Scores: Nobody Will Stop These Tornadoes Todd Grasley Jan 28, 2014

Jacksonville will be under a Tornado watch during the 2A state meet and I'm not talking about inclimate weather. The boys from Booker T. Washington in Miami come in as heavy favorites. As you may recall, it came down to the 4x400 meter relay for this team in 2013, and a second place finish in thar race, put them one point behind Lakewood and as the 2A runner-up.

Coach Kevin Curran: A Full-Time Love For The Sport Chad Germany Oct 2, 2012

Kevin Curran is a coach. More specifically, Kevin Curran is the track & field and cross-country coach at one of the premier athletic high schools in the state. However, to bill Curran as just a coach would be an injustice to the great amount of effort and passion he puts into his work. Curran is a teacher, a runner, a fan, a leader, and above all, he is an inspiration.

On Site Coverage: Ridgeview Bob Hans Invitational Chad Germany Sep 15, 2012

From the opening gun of the boys’ varsity race to the final finisher of the open 5k, Ridgeview High School proved once again why Bob Hans is among the best early season invitationals in the Jacksonville area. The Ridgeview course underwent several recent changes, however the course was well marked, and times were fast across all races. For many schools, Bob Hans serves as that final preparation before taking on the likes of the best in the state, however even with this in mind, the competition should not be taken lightly. The field was highlighted by traditional powers such as Bartram Trail, Nease, Bishop Kenny, Chiles, and Mandarin, while up-and-comers like Stanton Prep, St. Augustine, and Bishop Snyder would let their presence be known.

Scouting Report: Bishop Kenny Boys Todd Grasley Aug 29, 2012

Bishop Kenny returns five of it's top seven runners from the 2011 season. The team finished fourth in a tight battle with Jacksonville rival Bolles and Cocoa Beach. The Crusaders are on a mission this year to crank the podium and will be lead by a trio I like to call the "MA" girls.

Vaulting Onto The National Stage Todd Grasley May 15, 2012

My first sighting of Mason Cathey is burned on my retina like a sunspot. It was February of 1997, and it was my first day as volunteer pole vault coach at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida.(via Running Times )

Belen Jesuit Leads Colonial, Estero as Top Returning Team Jason Byrne Aug 4, 2011

Belen Jesuit pack a punch this season! Four of their top five return with plenty of firepower to fill in the gap and then some. Elliot Clemente will lead the way (likely for the entire state) with his 15:03 season best from last year, pacing Belen to a 15:58 team average. Colonial and Estero ring in at a somewhat distant but certainly not insurmountable #2 and #3 position in our computer rankings.

Holy Trinity All-Star Showdown: Charlotte Cruises, BK Misses Record Jason Byrne May 17, 2010

The Holy Trinity All-Star Showdown has become a nice low-key post-season tradition that gives athletes another chance to run fast times without any pressure. There were some great performances in all events, as well as the always fun milk mile, but the most anticipated race of the night was the Boys 4x800 where Charlotte went after a new best time and Bishop Kenny got a second chance of their school record.....

Showdown at the Ranch, Pre-State Meet is Tomorrow Jason Byrne Oct 17, 2008

This weekend a couple thousand of runners, including many of the best in the state of Florida, will be headed to an out-of-the way ranch in dimly populated North Pasco County.  Down the small dirt, wooden path they will venture, hoping their bus does not get stuck.  And then finally over the railroad tracks, the woods open up and they will see it:  the beautiful Little Everglades Ranch.  Some hate the course, some love it.  But there is no denying it is one of the most beautiful spaces of authentic Florida that you will find.  No tourists.  No urban sprawl.  Just a serene natural setting filled with the greenest grass, wetland ponds, blue herons and other water birds, along with a few hundred head of cattle! 2096 athletes and 80 schools are entered, coming from as far away as Key West and Fort Walton Beach.  Some of them are perennial powers.  Others are small but developing programs.  All coming together for this preview of the season culminating state championship meet just over a month from now. Here is your first look at the competition.

2A Boys Region Previews Jason Byrne Aug 12, 2008

Belen Jesuit may be favored on paper, but a little reality check shows it's much closer. Tampa Jesuit may have its leader back afterall and give rise to the Tigers' title hopes to upset Belen. That is if Bishop Kenny doesn't upset them both! It's going to be a hot one!

North Florida Boys Preview Tyrone Gayle Aug 25, 2007

North Florida, as it has since the beginning of Y2K, will start with three perenial powers who each have three state titles in the seven years since the dawn of the decade:  in Tallahassee the Timberwolves of Chiles and the Marauders of Maclay and two and half hours east down I-10 in Jacksonville the “wait, I thought they graduated everybody” boys of Bishop Kenny.  Beyond those three Tallahassee and Jacksonville championship dynasties, Clay County's Bears of Bartram Trail will look to mix it up. And Flagler Palm Coast, which was marked as the only North Florida team mentioned on the NTN South Region poll, will also be vying for top honors.  FPC, itself an amazing dynasty, has two titles and two runner-ups since 2000.  Don’t get me wrong, there is a nice group of other teams to watch as well, but these five will be the cream of the crop in North Florida.

Deak, Hall Win HS Mile @ UF Indoors Jason Byrne Feb 10, 2003

Ryan Deak and Courtney Hall won the high school elite mile at UF Indoors. Alan Webb made an appearance in the 800m and many other college stars came out at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville.
