About Our Team

Charlotte High School is a historic public high school in Punta Gorda, Florida, serving ninth through twelfth grade students. The school is part of the Charlotte County Public Schools district, with admission based primarily on the locations of students' homes. Established in 1926, Charlotte High is located at 1250 Cooper Street. The school carries the slogan of "Charlotte County's First and Finest" since it remained the only high school in Charlotte County for many years.

The Charlotte Tarpons Boys Cross Country Team have won 8 Charlotte County XC Championships in a row (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), 4 District Championships (1969, 2008, 2009, 2010), 1 District Runner-Up (2011), and 3 Region Championships (2008, 2009, 2010). At the State meet, the Boys have finished 5th in 1965, 17th in 2008, 3rd in 2009, State Runner-Up in 2010, 16th in 2011, and 19th in 2014. Individual State Champions (2-mile): Russell Taylor 1965, and Tom Fulton 1968. The Boys team is coached by Chris George.

The Charlotte Tarpons Girls Cross Country Team placed for Districts (2008 Runner-Up, 2009 3rd, 2010 4th, 2011 3rd, 2015 2nd, 2016 2nd) and for Regions (2008 Runner-Up, 2009 5th place, 2010 7th place, 2011 9th Place, 2015 6th Place). At the State meet, the Girls have finished in 17th place in 2008, 10th in 2009, and 15th in 2015. The Girls Team is coached by Chris Robishaw.

The Charlotte Tarpons Boys Track & Field Team have won 11 District Championships (1972, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), 2 District Runner-Ups (2014, 2015), 3 Region Championships (2000, 2011, 2015) and 2 Region Runner-Ups (2009, 2010). They earned Back-to-Back 3A State Championships (2010, 2011).

In 2011, the 4x800 Relay team set the state record, with a time of 7:30.31 at New Balance Outdoor Nationals. The time achieved is the second fastest all time in the nation. The 4x800 Relay members were (leg 1) Anthony Borrego 1:55.64, (leg 2) Bryan Hilgar 1:53.18, (leg 3) Ryan Schnulle 1:51.42, and (leg 4) Tyler Cardillo 1:50.08. In addition, this group of boys set the record for the 4x1600m Relay at the Florida Relays earlier that year with a time of 17:40.83. Both record setting relay teams were coached by Chris George.

The Charlotte Tarpons Girls Track & Field Team have won 12 District Championships (1982, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013), District Runner-Ups (2010, 2011), 1 Region Championship (1996), and 1 State Runner-Up (2002).

The Track & Field team is coached by Chris George (Distance) and Jerry Voss (Sprints). Assistant Coaches are: Jeremy Green (Pole Vault), Wade Taylor (Hurdles), and Tom Mut (Throws).
