Deanna Hill Heads West To Run For Southern Cal

The college decision is in for Lake Highland sprinter Deanna Hill. Hill who won the 100 meter state championships and finished second in the 200 will head out west and run for the University of Southern California Trojans. See what factored into her decision and what she is looking forward to the most.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

The recruiting process was an amazing and once in a lifetime experience. I found it to be a privilege to be recruited by schools of this caliber and I am so grateful.

Where else were you looking?

I took a visit to FSU and University of Texas. I also did in home visits with LSU, University of Miami,  and UCF. I chose these schools because they all were different in size and I was able to see which would fit me best.

In the end you chose to head west to Southern Cal. Why did you pick the Trojans?

I chose Southern Cal in the end because of its size and because of how beautiful the campus was. I also loved the faculty and the educational opportunities I will receive at USC.

How did the relationship with Coach Caryl (formerly at UCF) help in your decision?

My relationship with Coach Caryl influenced my decision because my family has known her for an extended period of time and we trust her.  Coach's track record with females sprinters is awesome and she has the ability to get the most out of her athletes. All you have to do is look at UCF's finish at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. I really have faith in her and know that I have found a home at USC.

You also had a chance to meet with some of your future teammates. How do you feel you fit in with the group?

Yes, the team at USC was an amazing  group. I enjoyed meeting the athletes and coaches as well. Their determination to be  successful on and off the track made me feel right at home. USC will provide for my academic needs and Coach Caryl will make sure I'm challenged on the track.

What kind of runner is USC getting in Deanna Hill?

When signing me, USC is signing someone who will dedicate herself completely to everything on and off the track. I am someone who will not only work to better herself but work to better the team as a whole. They are also going to find someone who will bring a positive vibe because of my energetic personality. I can't wait to join the Trojan Family! GO TROJANS!!!!!
Why the decision to committ now and not after your senior season?

My decision was made early because, I knew where I wanted to go. The decision to commit now would ultimately lead to a less stressful year.

What are your goals for your last high school track season?

This year, I hope to defend my state title, win the 200m title and also to continue to compete at a national level. I am excited to be able to end my senior year and high school season with new PRs and bigger wins.
