North Florida's Fast Five Through Week 2: Hicks & Delay Steal The Show

North Florida's Fastest 5 Boys

The Bale -n- Trail Original in Jacksonville produced our top five boys performances out of North Florida.

Charles Hicks (Sophomore, Bolles)

Sophomore Charles Hicks of Bolles ranks number 1 in the north Florida area going into the week. Charles opened his season winning the Spikes and Spurs Classic in a time of 15:44. The sophomore ran well again Labor Day morning at the Bale-n-Trail Cross Country Original finishing at 15:45 in 2nd place. Hicks came off an impressive Track season in the spring where he won both the 1600m and 3200m at the FHSAA 2A District 4 meet as well as both events again at the FHSAA 2A Region 1 competition. Charles finished 5th in 2A at the state meet last year as a freshman.

Michael Phillips (Junior, Chiles)

Michael Phillips from Chile's ranks 2nd after a solid finish at the Bale-n-Trail Cross Country Original this past weekend. The junior started off his season at the end of July racing in Boone, North Carolina at the ASU team camp. Michael opened regular season competition at the Cougar XC Challenge winning the race in 16:43. The past Labor Day weekend Michael dropped some series time in the 5k running at PR of 15:58 for a 3rd place finish propelling him up in the rankings.

Matthew Clark (Senior, Chiles)

Matthew Clark of Creekside ranks 3rd with a 16:08 from the Bale-n-Trail Cross Country Original. Clark, who was the previous year's Bale-n-Trail and FHSAA 3A District 4 champion, is already running some quicker times early into this season. Clark finished 5th in 3A at the state meet last year so keep a lookout for the Creekside Senior as he continues to progress throughout the season.

Calum McFetridge (Senior, Buchholz)

Calum McFetridge of Buchholz High ranks fourth in north Florida. The Bobcat Senior started the season with a win at the Buchholz 16th Annual All Comers Time Trial Jamboree where he finished in 17:11. At the Spikes and Spurs Classic McFetridge finished in 4th running a faster time of 16:15 and then ran a time of 16:20 for 6th the next weekend at the Bale-n-Trail. Based on past seasons expect Calum to progress throughout the season. Last year he finished 3rd at the state meet in 15:53 and went on to win the Foot Locker South Regional in 16:03.

Chase Rivera (Sophomore, Bolles)

Bolles Sophomore Chase Rivera takes the 5th spot in north Florida rankings. Running mid 16's for 5k at both the Spikes and Spurs where he finished 5th as well as Bale-n-Trail with a 9th place finish Chase is already clocking race times close to his PR from the end of last year. In 2015 Chase finished 2nd at the FHSAA 2A Region 1 meet with a PR of 16:12.
