For Mandarin senior Mary Kate Ponder the college selection process has come to an end. Ponder narrowed her final three down to the University of Florida, University of North Florida, and University of Kentucky. Friday she made her decision and Saturday she made an official announcement at the Cross Country State Championships after finishing 10th.
"I decided to go to the University of Kentucky. They have an awesome program, the girls are so nice, the coaches and their coaching style are the perfect fit for me, and I know that is where I am supposed to be."
The recruiting process picked up and became hectic for Ponder after she ran 4:59 in the 1600 meters during track season. She says she is grateful to have met so many people along the way, and is looking forward to what the future holds in Lexington and Big Blue nation.
"I am looking forward to all of the school pride and being more independent and running in college. I would like to contribute as much as I can to my team my freshman year and I would like to go as far as I can in the seasons throughout college."
