Tsion Yared is only a freshman, but the youngster is no stranger to success. The 2014 2A Cross Country Finals champion is off to a solid start this season and is in familiar territory this week at the Pine Crest Invitational. As a 6th grader Yared was the meet runner-up, she won as a 7th grader, and was runner-up last year behind eventual 3A state champion Britney Gill of Dillard. She'll face a tough task against the Mater Academy duo of Valerie Lastra and Jinah Mickens-Malik. South Florida correspondent Eddie Romero and Teri Bernhardt-Rodrigues will be on-site and have all the race video, interviews, photos, results, recaps, and more!
Donald Lamb was on-site at my alma mater on Wednesday, Osceola High School, for their home meet which featured teams from around the county. Check out nearly 500 photos from the girls and boys races including this one of an athlete from the hometown Kowboys.
Mia Rodriguez of The King's Academy won the Spanish River Invitational 1A/2A race with a time of 20:08.02. Oh and by the way, she's only a SEVENTH grader. Was her performance the most impressive from week four? You vote. You decide. Voting ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
St. Stephen's Episcopal School senior Andrew Csuback picked up his first ever cross country win at this past weekend's Venice Invitational in a new personal best time of 16:39.60. Was his performance the most impressive from week four? You vote. You decide. Voting ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

The varsity athletes get most of the love, but we wanted to see who were the top JV athletes and teams around the state. Power programs like Niceville, Bolles, and Winter Park are loaded with depth, but it's the Eagles, who own the top spot in our team scores with their #8-14 runners averaging a time of 21:01.66 and a 1-5 split of just 36 seconds!
At Belen Jesuit they have a tradition of winning and excellence and that starts at the middle school level with coach Victor Arrieta to the junior varsity and varsity programs under head coach Frankie Ruiz. The reason why the Wolverines have been one of the most dominant teams in the last decade is because the athletes are constantly motivated to see what their predecessors have done before them. See which squads made our list of the top boys JV teams so far this season.
Hernando junior Trevor Foley came into 2016 with a sense of something to prove after a swollen left ventricle saw him finish 15th at regionals and a disappointing 79th at the Cross Country Finals. Foley won his last two meets at the RiverWood Invitational and Central High Bear Run and recently let our cameras come out to film highlights of his most recent workout, a 3 mile progression threshold followed with 4x800m.
South Florida is loaded with young talent. Alexandra Del Re of Jupiter High School proved she belongs in the conversation among the state's best after running a FL#4 18:11.05 to win the Spanish River Invitational 3A/4A race, while Columbus junior Deshay Fernandes got revenge on rival Joshua Collins who beat him at King of the Hill in the final seconds, by winning this past weekend's Spanish River Invitational 3A/4A race.) Our South Florida correspondent Eddie Romero picked the five best performances from the week in a feature we call South Florida's Fast Five.
Our North Florida correspondent Jacob Fuller takes a look at the top five boys and girls performances through week four of the cross country season. It's no surprise that state leader Charles Hicks is the top male on the list after improving his SB to 15:33 at the Florida Horse Park Invitational, while Lincoln freshman Alyson Churchill ran a FL#2 of 18:05 in Georgia this past weekend.
It's hard to believe we are nearing the halfway point of the 2016 XC season. Our FACA pollsters have been hard at work to give you their latest rankings.
There's no holding back in the Midwest region this year.
See how Florida alumni fared in collegiate action across the country for the week of 9/12-9/18.
The 3A/4A girls varsity race at the Spanish River Invitational proved to be a coming out party for the freshmen class in the state of Florida. Jupiter's Ali Del Re was first in 18:11.05 with Mater Academy Charter's Valerie Lastra (pictured above) right behind her in 18:15.94. Alyson Churchill of Lincoln is the fastest underclassmen on the list with her SB of 18:05.97. The top five athletes on the list are all freshman while the top eight have all run under 19 minutes. We rank the top 500 girls from the class of 2020 and 2019.
Two Bolles sophomores stand at the top of the boys underclassmen rankings. Charles Hicks is the lone athlete on the list of 500 to run under 16 minutes. His time of 15:33.21 from the Florida Horse Park Invitational, isn't just the fastest for freshmen and sophomores, but the state leader through four weeks of the season. Teammate Chase Rivera is second with a SB of 16:05.49 while fellow Bulldog Benjamin Foltz is fourth. We rank the top 500 boys underclassmen for 2016.
Check out the weekly XC update from around the country!
For the second time in as many races this cross country season, Florida State senior Harry Mulenga turned in an award-worthy performance. Mulenga had plenty of company among Seminoles competing at Friday’s Adidas XC Challenge, including a memorable collegiate debut by freshman Steven Cross.
Over the course of the XC season we grab dozens of interviews from meets around the state. Each week we are going to feature those interviews and share how some of the top athletes across the state felt after their respective races.
Today, I was running on fumes. Saturday we competed in the St. Thomas Invitational hosted by St. Brendan. I was a little hesitant and worried going into the race. I’m never one to lack confidence, but Wednesday night I came down with a stomach virus. I was absent from school on Thursday so my parents could monitor my food intake. But as the saying goes you train to be the best you can on your worst day.
