The Favorites: Cross Country Finals Top Returning Girls Aug 24, 2016

The lone state champion returner from 2015 on either the boys or girls side is Riverview junior Bailey Hertenstein. Hertenstein's 17:32.55 is the fastest time regardless of class on the Apalachee Regional Park course in November. 2014 state champions Tsion Yared (2A) and Rafaella Gibbons (4A) also return for another ring. See the top 500 returning times from the 2015 Cross Country finals and which girls have the best shots at bringing back the crown.

Bolles, Chiles State Championships Move Ryan, Gowan To Fifth On All-Time Wins List Nov 17, 2015

Coach Ryan of Bolles (pictured above with team) and Coach Gowan of Chiles moved up the all-time wins list after the 2015 Cross Country Finals. The Bolles girls picked up their fourth consecutive 2A crown giving him his 9th overall while the Chiles girls continued the rich tradition of the Timberwolves program and gave Gowan his 9th as well. Both coaches pass the late Jeff Sommer of Estero to move into a tie for fifth place.

In this series we take a look at state championship coaches, their outlook on the team, and 2015 season. Coach Sue O'Malley has been at Father Lopez for nine years, but is in her fourth as the boys coach. This year the team won their first ever district, regional and state titles.

Bailey Hertenstein, Creekside Boys Voted Cross Country Finals Top Performers Nov 16, 2015

Riverview sophomore Bailey Hertenstein set a new course record with her 17:32.55 to win the 4A state championship while the Creekside boys ousted defending champion Chiles in a very competitive class 3A at the Cross Country Finals. YOU the running community decided and picked those as our best individual and team performance from the state meet.

Helping Hand: Plant City's Whitmore Guides Fallen Runner To Finish At State Meet Nov 12, 2015

Every sporting event has their memorable moments. At the Cross Country Finals, Walker Thomas of Plant High School went down in the 4A race only to find his peer Luke Whitmore of Plant City do the unthinkable. He carried Thomas 200 meters to the finish line in an example of exemplary sportsmanship, which raises the question when do you help out and when do you continue on?

Girls Combined Team Scores: Timberwolves Top Team At State, Add Another Title To Storied Program Nov 12, 2015

We combined the results of all four classifications to find out who was the best team overall and where do the rest of the squads stack up? 3A champion Chiles and 4A champion Winter Park would have a dog fight on their hands, but the advantage would go to the Timberwolves who have a slower 1-5 split but better average time at 19:12.69 (just under ten seconds) and total time by 49 second. See where your team ranks among the top teams in the state!

Boys Combined Team Scores: Best Performance At State Caps Off Perfect Season For Trinity Prep Nov 12, 2015

Trinity Prep completed its undefeated season with their third straight 2A state championship. After merging the results from every classification, the Saints were the best team with a 44 second 1-5 split and team average of 16:16.94 lead by individual state champion Chas Cook. 3A champion Creekside was followed by 3A runner-up Chiles as the top three teams. Go along for the ride literally and figuratively as Winter Park junior Elizabeth Jenkins takes with the Wildcats as they ride from Central Florida to Florida's capital for the 2015 Cross Country Finals where they defended their 4A team title.

DeLay, No Doubt Best Of Junior Girls At Cross Country Finals Nov 10, 2015

Kayley DeLay of Fletcher was only one of two runners to break 18 minutes at the 2015 Cross Country Finals. DeLay’s time of 17:56.72 earned her a runner-up finish in 4A and the fastest time of any junior regardless of class. Check out the top times from the class of 2017. Where do you rank?

Bolles freshman Charles Hicks continued his spectacular season finishing 5th in 2A with a time of 16:07.39. His time was more than 25 seconds faster than the next fastest class of 2019 athlete teammate Chase Rivera.
