Boys Championship Recap
The only individual or team entry from Florida in the Boys Championship race was 2015 runner-up Avery Creek Running Club, also known as Trinity Prep. The Saints were coming off of their fourth straight 2A Cross Country Finals championship and the experience of going to Portland just one year ago.
Trent Mandato who finished 12th as an individual last year at NXNSE jumped right to the front of the lead pack and was 5th as the group went thru 2k at 6:03. The rest of the top five not too far behind all in the top 50 spots and currently the top team at that early point of the race.
The group managed to keep close, but the further their 1-5 spread which hovered around 30 seconds most of the season, slipped towards a minute, the more the chance at Portland faded away. Mandato managed to hang in the top ten, but unfortunately for him his 8th place showing was SIX TENTHS away from a repeat trip to Oregon.
The Trinity Prep boys have nothing to hang their hat on after being the best team in Florida this year and showing the southeast what Florida can do on a national stage. Congratulations to all our teams on a fantastic season!
