Winter Park's Gregory Skage Sets Pole Vault Bar High, Clears PR & FL A-T #3 16'9.25

There's something about pole vaulting on your home turf, familiarity with the runway and your surroundings. Just ask Winter Park senior and Air Force signee Gregory Skage. Last year, at the Bob Mosher Wildcat Open he opened up his season with a new personal best of 15'9.

At the 2017 edition of the meet, Skage's second meet of the season, he upped his previous best by ONE FOOT, clearing 16'9.25" (5.11m) the third best vault ever in the state of Florida. His mark trails only Drew McMichael (17'2 in 2015) and Mike Holloway (17'1 in 1987). Coach Bill Cashman of Thin Air Vault Club, says Greg had an amazing series of vaults.

"His series was as follows
13'6, 14,6, 15'1, 15'10, 16'2, 16'5, 16'9 and three attempts at 17'0! We just want to keep trying to establish better technique and have as much fun as we can for his senior year. The Air Force is getting one fine young man."

Skage's mark of 16'9.25" (5.11m)  ranks him number one in the state of Florida and
third nationally behind Marcus Doran (17'10) and Joaquin Carrasco (18'1) of Texas.
