Spotlight Athlete: Taylor Stone - Osceola High School (Seminole)


Osceola's Taylor Stone had a fantastic freshman campaign with a district runner-up finish and placing 27th at the 3A Cross Country Finals. We caught up with her to talk about her summer training, the 2017 season, and more in this Spotlight Athlete feature.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

I began running when I was 6 when my aunt signed me up for a triathlon.

Do you remember your first real race?

My first race was the St. Anthony's Meek and Mighty Triathlon.

How was your summer training?

Training this summer has been really good. I attended a cross country camp in North Carolina with many of my teammates. We had a lot of fun and had a chance to bond.

What was your 2016 XC season like?

2016 was quite a learning experience. I had always been a soccer player and a triathlete and never focused solely on running before. I enjoyed the camaraderie with my teammates and I am excited for 2017.

What's a typical training week like?

Coach Eagleson always has different workouts for us during the week and he keeps us on our toes. On Sundays many of my teammates get together for a long run.

What is your favorite workout? 

My favorite workout is Monna Fartlek.

Which meets will you be running in this year?

I will be running the Jim Ryun Invite, FLRunners, Land O' Lakes, and many others.

Do you have a favorite course? What do you think is the toughest course in the state? 

My favorite course is Apalachee Park (States). The toughest course I have raced is Sand Key Park in Clearwater.

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

When I set my PR at the district meet last year. 

What are your goals for the upcoming cross country season?

To continue to get better, stronger and faster and to help my team place well at states.

What do you love most about running?

I love the camaraderie and I love the competition on race day. 

The Low Down 

Do you have a favorite quote?

"I run like a girl, try to keep up."

Do you have any pre-race rituals or routines?

I wear the same socks on race day. 

What is your favorite food?

Fettuccine alfredo.

What was the last movie you saw and what did you think of it?

Mamma Mia, I loved it. It is a great musical.

What brand of shoes do you train/race in?

I train in Saucony and Brooks and I usually run in Brooks for race day. 

What professional athlete would you like to meet the most?

Jenny Simpson. I loved the way she finished the 1500m at Worlds.

What are somethings most people don't know about you? 

I like shopping at vintage stores.

Lastly, if you were stranded on an island with three things what would they be? 

Water filter, a good book, and a hammock.
