6 months ago, Flrunners released an article on Coach Bob Braman and how he hoped to make Florida State's mens and womens track and field teams national contenders this year with the coaching staff, athletes, and facilities he had on his side. Fast forward to June 10, 2006. Florida State's men's track and field team was crowned national champions, while the women finished in the top 15. They accomplished this mighty feat relying on the backbone of some familiar faces.
"I'm really proud of the face that four of our Florida guys could have won the meet by themselves and scored 52 points. I mean how incredible is that?" The group Coach Braman is referring to includes Walter Dix (Coral Springs HS-200m champ, 100m runner up), Garret Johnson (Tampa Baptist Academy-shot put champ, 5th in discus), Rafeeq Curry (ACE Academy-triple jump champ), and Ricardo Chambers (Dwyer-2nd in 400m).
