Well that's one way to make an entrance! In only her second appearance against high school competition, freshman Alfreda Smith certainly made an impression.

Representing Pasco High School, she started off the day winning the long jump with a 16-5.5 leap that was a quarter inch better than the best jump by Hudson juniro Ashley Dugan. Once the track events started, Dugan lined up in heat number eight of eight in a finals against time scenario. She easily disposed of the field with a stellar 12.00 showing that was over a half second better than second place Darien Davis, a sophomore at River Ridge.

Next up on her long day, was the 4x100. Steele ran with Pasco High seniors Charmine Daniels and Raven Johnson, along with junior Brianca Roberts. Far their junior, however, she of course was the anchor leg and took them home for a second place finish of 51.62 behind the 50.44 of Zephyrhills.

With the sun now well into the horizon, she finished night off under the lights in heat five of seven finals heats. Despite winning her heat by almost two and a half seconds, Steele's time was the fastest of the heats. That made her three-for-three in individual events on the day with a 26.27 victory in the 200m.
