Meet Information

Top Anticipated High School Match-Ups

Friday

  • Girls 400 Meters: After finishing 1-2 at least year's 1A State Meet (Hani 54.90, Gayles 55.74), Abby Hani of Lake Mary Prep and Gabby Gayles of Holy Trinity will be going for a state meet preview here in lanes four and five. Faith Woodward of Orlando Freedom could also be in the mix.
  • Boys 400 Meters: Coming off of a 20.99 in the 200 last night at St. Johns Conference, Ceolamar will be going after the 400 again on Friday at FSU. The Nease senior will face tough competition from Brylan Slay of Winter Park and local rival Joshua Johnson of Providence.
  • Girls Long Jump: Six girls over 19 feet? Wow! These ladies will be going after the title of state's best long jumper here with Danielle Phillips of Rockledge, Darrielle McQueen of North Florida Christian, Sandra Akachukwu of Freedom, Abby Hani of Lake Mary Prep, Jazzmine Folston of Cocoa, and Daryth Gayles of Holy Trinity.
  • Girls Discus:  Rebecca Evans of Winter Springs and Tayla Greene of Rockledge are ranked 4-5 in the state and will both be seeing if they can cross the 140 foot mark.
  • Boys/Girls 3200: The boys race has eight under 9:30 and the girls race has eight under 11:00. Both should be great!

Saturday

  • Girls High Jump:  With two girls who have cleared 5-8 this year (Faith Woodward of Freedom and Tia Smith of Rockledge), two more that cleared it last season (Sandra Akachukwu of Freedom and Hannah Welsh of Dunedin), along with super frosh Dominique Turner of Lake Mary knocking on the door this one will be huge!
  • Girls Invitational 1600 (Heat 2):  Carmen Carlos of Alabama and Stefanie Kurgatt of Maclay come in with personal bests from last year in the 4:49-range. Mix that up with current state leader in this event, Emily Edwards, and returning stars who ready to have their 2013 break out in Kacy Smith, and Rachel Givens and this could be really really interesting... and (as long as it doesn't get too tactical) fast!!! Carlos and Smith are pretty agressive in their running style though, so one of them will probably start cranking the pace up if Kurgatt plays timid at the start--you better believe Kurgatt hopes it comes down to a kick and Smith does not!
  • Boys Invitational 1600 (Heat 2):  It may well take better than 4:15 to win this race. You've got current state #2 Trevor Touchton of Lincoln, Foot Locker finalist and FSU signee Grant Nykaza of Illinois, star Avery Lopez of Belen Jesuit, Florida #5 Daniel Sales of Trinity Prep, Conor Ferrentino of Freedom, ..... John Lindsey of Winter Park, Sukhi Khosloa of Leon who had an awesome 3200 a couple of weeks ago,  Nicholas Morken of Niceville... the list goes on and on. I think you could see eight under 4:20.
  • Girls 100:  The middle lanes will be hot with Jazzmine Folston of Cocoa, Deanna Hill of Lake Highland, and Daryth Gayles of Holy Trinity.
  • Boys 100: Ceolamar Ways will try his third race in three days with a 20.99 200m at Conference on Thursday, the 400m at FSU on Friday, and now the 100m. He was third in 10.42 behind that insanity by Whitfield-Williams at Bob Hayes a couple weeks ago and won the big 200m at Indoor Nationals the week before. So he's ready for another big one!  Antonio James of Gainesville and Reggie Davis of Lincoln, who were fourth and fifth at Bob Hayes, will try to give him something to think about as all three hope to push into the 10.40s or better and maybe wind legal this time who knows.
