MB: How\'d you feel out there today?
KP: It was pretty tough, but I enjoyed the hills.
MB: Did you get any of your splits?
KP: Just the first mile. I went out in 5:58 which was my plan.
MB: When did you break away from the rest of the pack?
KP: I was going to stay with them, but then Coach Travieso told me not to let them slow me down. Without him, I wouldn\'t have broken away. I made a move a little past the 1 mile mark.
MB: Was this an expected win?
KP: No, not at all. It was a big surprise.
MB: How\'s the rest of the team looking this year?
KP: Excellent! I\'m really excited about our team this year. We didn\'t exactly have a full team last year. But, now we have a full team. Hopefully a few of our varsity runners will come back from injuries.
MB: What do you think about the individual (state) title? Do you think you have a shot?
KP: I\'m just going to work on PRing over the season. I try not to think about it.
