Salute To Seniors: Corey Pollard - Crystal River High School

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race would have to be this years 800m at the Florida Relays. I won my heat and broke our school record for the 800m running a 1:57.43.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Chris Jackson from, Dunnellon High School. He was the state champ this year for our classification. Him and i battled it out a few times this season and I'm one of the only four people who actually can say they beat him this year. Him and i have became really close friends this year and I wish him the best in the future!

What was your greatest accomplishment?

It would be between high jumping 6'7 and leading the state for my class most of the year, or breaking the school record in the 800m at the Florida Relays.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would have ran cross country instead of playing football, even though I love football. Cross country would have helped prepare me a lot better for track other than football.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I'd say the head games, I did four events almost every track meet in my high school career. So my mind would always say. " Your too tired, you can't run a good leg in the 4x400 after running the 800!" I'd always have to overcome that and prove myself wrong.
What will you miss the most?

The people and the atmosphere at the local meets, because I'm the best where I'm from, and thats gonna change when i run in college.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

To always train as much as you can, and never listen to anyone who doesn't believe you can achieve something. You can do anything you set your mind to. You just have to put in the work.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach is like a father to me. Hewishes me the best and is behind me with whatever I want to do in the future.

What are your college plans?

I'm planning on running for Embry Riddle University in the spring.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

All of my coaches and teammates the last four years because without them I wouldn't be the athlete or person I am today.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I'd just like to say thank you to this website and all my friends, coaches, and family. I'm truly blessed and i can't wait to run track and college!
