Salute To Seniors: Megan Tse - Spruce Creek High School

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race was the 400m hurdles at the Taco Bell Classic in South Carolina. It was the first time I ran this event and I competed against one of the best 400m hurdles girls in the nation, Kaila Smith. I was able to place 3rd overall. Not bad for the first time.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Every year there was someone different to challenge me in my events. This year my biggest competitor was Dominique Turner from Lake Mary. She pushed me to bring down my 100m hurdles time as well as my 300m hurdles event.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was qualifying for state in three events: 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and 4x400 relay.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I can turn back time, I would have been more serious my freshman year. I have never run track before and did not realize the commitment required in my young freshman experience. I realize I could be much farther if I had focus on training early on.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I am not your typical hurdler. At 5'2 I was at a disadvantage to the much taller hurdlers. My mind would play tricks on me and when I did not do well, I would be hard on myself.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my teammates. The Spruce Creek track team is like a giant family. Everyone would support each other at every track meet.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

I would advise them to be determined and put in the hard work. What your mind will conceive, your body will achieve.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach has made me the athlete I am today. Coach Step has always had faith in me to become a college track athlete. Coach has pushed me to my maximum this year with the hard practices and off-season training this season. I have broken several school and track meet records this year as well as achieve my life goal for running for a major DI school (UF).

What are your college plans?

I will be attending the University of Florida majoring in Physical Therapy. I have also been invited to join the UF women track team.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank my coach for believing in my abilities. I also would like to thank my parents for all the support in everything I do.

Is there anything else you like to add?

I am looking forward to my next chapter in my life with both college academics and track.  I am hopeful that I can succeed in my new endeavour in college track.
