Have you ever wondered how flrunners.com became flrunners.com? What was it before? How has it evolved over the years? Those questions answered in a new feature we are debuting called Throwback Thursday.
New Face, New Name
After over three years being known as "the ZONE," the site that has become a Mecca for Florida high school distance running is dropping the title by which it is known. Site founder, Jason Byrne, announced today the the site will now take on as its primary title its URL--flrunners.com.
"After obtaining our domain of flrunners.com," Byrne said, "I felt it was counterproductive to have two names that people would have to remember...both 'the ZONE' and our address 'flrunners.com.'" Byrne also stated that he was hesitant to do so based on the popularity and widespread use of the former title; however, it simply needed to be done.
The changes are of superficial nature, since the site's content will still remain the same. "Though branding is a very important part of a successful web site, I feel like the change will help growth in the long run," Byrne explained. The weekly polls that the site publishes will probably (at least for now) retain the name of the former site and be titled the flrunners.com ZONE Poll.
