GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gator hurdler Eddie Lovett (West Palm Beach, Fla.) continued his stellar season with a victory in the men’s 110-meter hurdles. Lovett switched his allegiance to the U.S. Virgin Islands earlier this year but competed for the United States in Kazan.
Lovett breezed through the semifinals in 13.53 before competing in the final of the event just two hours later. The West Palm Beach native then clocked in a time of 13.43 to win the event.
Lovett already has the A standard for the IAAF World Championships later this summer and will compete for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Lovett won the 2013 men’s 60-meter hurdles title at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a meet-record 7.50, notching a new school record and racing the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history.
The Gator junior claimed his third consecutive SEC Indoor title in the 60-meter hurdles in 2013, setting the second-fastest time in an SEC Championship meet in 7.54. For his efforts, Lovett was named the 2013 USTFCCCA South Region Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Lovett was also NCAA runner-up outdoors in the men’s 110-meter hurdles and owns PRs outdoors of 13.39 and a wind-aided 13.29, both in NCAA competition.
ESPNU will present tape-delayed coverage of the event, beginning Sunday, July 14 at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., as well as Monday, July 15 at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., all times Eastern.
Next up for the Orange and Blue is the 14th IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, August 10-18, 2013. The Gators currently have 12 official entries with additional athletes attempting to standard chase or hold the standard by July 20.
