In Her Own Words: Alexa Cruz

Hello everyone, my name is Alexa Cruz and I'm a sophomore at St. Thomas Aquinas. First off, I'd like to thank Flrunners for giving me the opportunity to be able to blog throughout this upcoming cross country season. I can't wait!

It's hard to believe that summer is coming to an end, but this year I was blessed with a fun and exciting one. I had the opportunity of attending two running camps this year with my team. First, I headed over to Tallahassee for Seminole Trails Running Camp at FSU. My team and I had a blast. We did so many things, from running on exciting trails to soaking in cool springs. Just getting to see some of the elite runners from FSU was pretty inspiring. Also, being able to view the campus and sleep in the dorms really gave me a taste of what the university was all about. Needless to say, the whole camp experience was awesome. Next, I traveled to Brevard, North Carolina with over 30 of my teammates for Brevard Distance Runners Camp. I had such a great time with my team there, I don't even know where to start. Running in the mountains is super fun and great for leg strength. We even got to run above the clouds when we went on our graduation run. One of my favorite things about BDRC is the famous creek; we soaked or "iced" in it after all of our runs. Try getting that kind of luxury in South Florida! The countless activities are another one of my favorite things about the camp, from team building exercises to the great dodge ball tournament. Tubing and white water rafting were among some of the other things my team and I did.  You could definitely say my team bonded and made some memories we'd never forget.

After both of my camps, I got to go on a cruise with my family. I got to see some pretty interesting things and relax. Trying to rid myself of my many running-related tan lines was one of my primary focuses. The only downside to going on a cruise is running on it. Try running your long run on a track that's less than 400 meters. Let's just say it was an experience I'd never forget. Running with my team this summer has been so fun. Everyone's very pumped and excited for the upcoming season. I hope everyone had a great summer of training and is just as excited for cross country season as I am. Let's enjoy these last weeks of summer and I'll be blogging again real soon!

Happy running everyone!
