In His Own Words: Nick Morken - Everyone Loves A Good Twitter Proposal

Flrunners.com. How’s it been? For me last week was filled with a little bit of reading, twitter proposals, and a little cross country thrown in there. Also before I begin, if anyone has any constructive criticism for me, feel free to comment, except for Todd Grasley. Haha.

Recently I have been reading in my free time and I have become re-inspired. Running with the Kenyans is about a man’s journey to train with the fastest people in the world. The book follows his adventures as he trains for the Lewa Marathon, a race that is considered one of the slowest courses in East Africa. Along the way he meets some notable athletes including the great Daniel Komen who holds the  two mile and 3000m world record. In this book he finds out what it is truly like to eat, live, and run like a Kenyan. The second book was Bowerman and the Men of Oregon. In this novel, Kenny Moore describes the great man, who made Eugene Track Capitol U.S.A. The book gives an insider’s view of all of Oregon’s greats like Dyrol Burleson, Roscoe Divine, and Steve Prefontaine. The book doesn’t just talk about the athletes training, but how the world looked through the eyes of Bill Bowerman. These two stories are highly recommended.

Now to the good part… Twitter proposals! As I was scrolling through Twitter, I got a brilliant idea. Anyone who has seen Mandy Perkins will know she is gorgeous and for everyone who doesn’t know she also ran for the Florida Gators. I was very intimidated, but I asked her to prom! I got a retweet so I hope that’s a yes. My friend Jake Fiske followed my lead by asking Genevieve LaCaze, another UF alumnus. She will be in Australia, but Jake says he will buy her plane ticket back to the states. There is one problem however, one 6’5 inch problem, by the name of Andrew Wheating. Apparently Mr. Wheating and Mandy are dating but maybe he will let me borrow her for the night.

The Eagles traveled to Mobile. Alabama for the Meet of Champions this past weekend and we just keep getting stronger. We placed a solid 2nd overall in the Elite race. Thomas and I took 1st and 2nd going 15:59 and 16:03. This week we begin cranking up the workouts getting ready for the larger races of Flrunners and Prestate. Our next meet is the Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola where we will continue to move forward as a team. That wraps up the action for this week. See you next time!
