In Her Own Words: Alexa Cruz

Hello everyone, I hope everybody has had a good first few weeks of racing. A lot has happened since I last blogged. From races to team sleepovers, these first few weeks of the season have been quite eventful and fun. I hope the rest of the season will be as exciting!

The last week of summer, my team had its annual Beach Cookout. Everyone had blast. We got to run along the beach, play volleyball, and eat some delicious food. The whole team bonded and had a lots of fun spending time together. We all enjoyed going into the ocean after our run, it was super refreshing. Though it was the last week of summer, everyone was anticipating the start of the school year; this meant races were starting soon. After the first week of school, my team had another celebration, it was our Cross-Country Kickoff Celebration. Slip-and-slides, great people, and great food were just a few of the reasons we had so much fun.

Now on to the real subject at hand: first races. I hope everyone has been happy with their first races. My team and I had our first race on Tuesday, September 10th. We raced the Fort Lauderdale City Championship. I was very proud of our freshmen who ran their first high school race ever, that's always exciting. Both the boys and girls ended up getting first. It was really nice to receive an award from the mayor of Fort Lauderdale. The first race is always a shake-off race for most and is just get your body back into things. For those who didn't have such a good first race, you just got to "forgive and forget", stay positive, and move on to the next one.

My team and I are super excited, as we are heading over to Gainesville this weekend to run the UF Mountain Dew Invitational. I can't wait to run on that golf course grass! The team has been looking good, so hopefully we'll have some PR's and a trophy to take back home with us. We've been putting in the work and are hoping for good results. Good Luck to everyone on their upcoming meets. Run fast, run hard, and have fun! Happy running!
