Week two of racing is finally in the books and I would like to say that it has been a blast to be back in the midst of a cross country season. The Timber Creek team took the short trip to Oviedo to race at the Hagerty Invitational. For the first morning meet of the season, I woke up earlier than I would have liked to, but by the end of the day it seemed to be all worth it. However, I will gladly wake up early for some of the cooler weather that was presented to us early in the day.
Upon arrival, the girls varsity got off to a quick start and I managed to be able to cheer on some of my teammates as they ran by while our guys varsity was warming up. I think the entire Timber Creek varsity girls team is beyond pleased to have finished 2nd as a unit at the conclusion of the race, one of which they were ranked much lower going into. They were lead by our freshmen Briana Burnett and sophomore Yelitza Tavarez who finished in the top ten to set the tone for the team.
Next up was the boys varsity, which I had the pleasure to take part in. Going into this race I had been feeling under the weather much of the week due to a slight cold I had gotten after Katie Caples, however, once the gun went off that was the last thing on my mind. The lead pack took the race out fairly quick, an shortly after I kept control throughout rest of the race till the end. I am pleased with my performance, given the circumstances, and I look forward to improving from here on out as the season progresses. I am even more elated to have finished first as a team, where the Timber Creek boys finished on top with three guys in the top ten and two more in the top twenty. I am glad that some of the younger guys are starting to find their stride after gaining their first race experience last week at Katie Caples. We are all looking forward to the rest of the season.
The junior varsity races came soon afterwards, where our junior varsity girls finished 3rd overall, led by junior Allison Mason. Our junior varsity boys finished 3rd overall as well, led by a top ten finish from a close friend of mine, Keegan Brockman, and freshmen Jordan Henry. It was a solid race all around for the team and I, one of which many set PRs and season bests and give us confidence moving onwards throughout the season. Congratulations to everyone who competed this weekend around the state and good luck this upcoming weekend. Till next race.
