In Her Own Words: Alexa Cruz - Running At The Swamp

Hey everyone! Hopefully everybody's season has been great.Even thought it hasn't been a long time since I last blogged, a lot of exciting things have happened since then. From racing at UF to finding out that we're going to Flrunners, it's been quite an eventful week.

Let me start by talking about the UF Mountain Dew Invitational that took place a little over a week ago. that was such a great race and running on a golf course is always fun. Who doesn't love running on golf course grass? Going into the race, I was just focused on getting a better time than I had gotten at the previous meet. I was super pumped up because of all the teams and individuals that were going to be there. During the race, I tried to pace myself and stay as relaxed as I could. I started at around 10th place by the first mile and just worked my way up to as close to the leader as possible. Throughout the race I just tried to stay positive and keep a clear mind, despite the hot and humid conditions. By the end of the race, I ended up getting third place. As a team we didn't perform as we would have liked because one of our girls dropped out due to an injury. We finished fifth overall, but we're all pumped for the Flrunners Invitational this upcoming weekend. On the JV side, our boys and girls did super well. I was super proud as many of them came out with PRs. Our JV boys ended up placing first and our JV girls placed fourth. It was definitely a great experience for all our young runners who now know what it's like race at such a big meet. Keep working hard! Also, a very special shout out to STA Varsity Boys for placing first and winning the meet! You go boys, keep on pushing!

All of us from the STA team are very excited, as this weekend we'll be attending the Flrunners Invitational! I'm really pumped because of all the great teams that are going. it's going to be one heck of a day for racing. I haven't been to the Flrunners Invite since eighth grade, so it's great to be running on the course again. We're all hoping to bring back PRs and to make it back on time for Homecoming. Yes, you read right, we're driving up to Flrunners and then hurrying back to get all dolled up for the dance. I hope everyone has a great week of training, and maybe I'll be seeing some of you at the race this weekend. Keep training hard and remember to always have fun!

Good luck and happy running!
