Meet Recap by Tom Connor

No one could have hoped for a more beautiful race morning than the one delivered this Saturday for the Manasota Track Club Invitational. Near flood conditions earlier in the week had kept Coach Jason Means and his team from Sarasota-Riverview High School busy for days, adjusting the course to allow a safe and challenging event. The combination of their efforts and the spectacular weather resulted in a great race that saw everyone leaving with a smile on their face and mud on their shoes.

The soggy conditions did not prevent several of the area’s top runners from turning in strong individual performances.  Brandon Marquez of Timber Creek led the pack in the boys race, finishing with an impressive 16:03, one second off of the meet record, and besting Tyler Bennet's time of 16:08 from a year ago..  He was followed by Canaan Meester-Ketterman from Bayshore High School who crossed the line in 16:27.50.

Timber Creek’s Brianna Burnett was the first girl to cross the finish line at 19:46.  Close behind her were North Port teammates Maddison Krstec and Sydney Guenther, both arriving in under 20:00 at 19:54.60 and 19:59.80 leading their team to a first place trophy.

Three teams stepped up to dominate the team competitions. Timber Creek won the boys title and finished third in the girls race. North Port mirrored that performance by finishing 1st and 3rd in the Girls and boys events, respectively. Host Sarasota-Riverview took 2nd in both the boys and girls varsity races.
