In Her Own Words: Alex Eaton- Dancing Debut, Never Giving Up

Hey flrunners!
This past weekend my team raced at the Flrunners.com Invitational. Congrats to all who raced at this meet. There were some really fast times, especially from Karen Xiang who won the girls Race of Champions. Flrunners had misty perfect weather (with some showers), and it was really nice to get to race on such a nice, flat course.

My team raced Friday, so I was able to watch them and cheer them on. That was really fun. Our girls varsity team was missing our 1,2,3 and 5 runners (due to illness, soccer, and ROC), but they still did amazing. I am so proud of how our middle schoolers stepped up, ran varsity, and PRed by minutes! My teammate Savannah Broome placed 3rd in small school varsity girls. Overall, the team placed 3rd too. The boys varsity team did amazing as well. They placed 1st for large school varsity boys. Ross Porter and Luke Peterson took 2nd and 3rd.

After both varsity teams raced, my team hung out, and waited for the awards. My teammate Josh Miles and I entered the dance contest to try to win Paramore tickets. We lost, but it was a ton of fun. I got to dance on stage with a lot of people cheering for me which has never happened before. I'm not exactly what you call a good dancer. Haha. After that, people kept telling me I did a good job dancing, and that's never happened before either.

Anyway, I also raced this weekend. I raced at the Race of Champions, and so did my teammate, Olivia Rovin. It was nice not to be the only individual from my team. She's like my little sister so we hung out the entire night and morning.

I started the race and didn't feel well at all. I have a really bad chest cold and racing the ROC probably wasn't the best thing for my cold. As soon as I started, I started coughing and had trouble breathing. As soon as I got around the first corner I knew it was going to be a rough race. I considered dropping out half way through the race, but I couldn't do that to my teammate. I'm also pretty stubborn and I hate giving up.

Honestly, my season has been pretty frustrating so far. I'm running times I did my freshman year, but I'm not giving up. The season isn't even half way done and all the important meets are yet to come. So to anyone else who is struggling too don't give up. You aren't alone and you aren't close to being done.

Best of luck to everyone this week!
