The first half of the 2013 cross country regular season is now behind us and the state championship pictures for all four classifications is becoming much more clear. This was a big racing weekend, particularly with the many great performances at the flrunners.com 14 Invitational, and I'm sure most of our Volunteer Pollsters enjoyed seeing so many great squads and individuals go head-to-head. So let's see their latest and greatest rankings!

1A Girls Rankings
By: Nathan Means, Mount Dora Bible School, nathan.means@chbs.org

Team Rankings:

Commentary: A lot of huge meets over the last couple of weeks, capped with mostly fast times in the light rain at flrunners 14.  Everyone is improving - some faster than others.  Oak Hall and Holy Trinity are CLOSE.  These standings are roughly the result of a virtual state meet based on PRs with likely qualifiers with a few adjustments to account for more recent times.  Meet scoring can always vary depending on the makeup of the field.  Team averages are the best, recently available numbers for a single meet by each team.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Just when it appeared that Julie Wollrath was unassailable at the #1 spot, Grace Casagrande ran the race of her life and takes charge of 1A.  Only the best times of the last three weeks were considered - you have to stay on your game to stay in the list!  Lots of shifting this time, with a few new (old) names coming up.

2A Girls Rankings
By: Mike Becker, Ransom Everglades, mbecker@ransomeverglades.org

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Bolles takes week off to watch those chasing them after a race in Atlanta.  Pine Crest improving each week, and can be expected to continue to improve since team is so young. Pine Crest fourth runner, on paper, is now faster than Bolles' fourth.  But again, Bolles tenth runner beats every other team's fifth right now on paper, so Bolles still a greater margin of error as well as the mojo of a defending champion.  Hard to go against Bolles, especially factoring in that FL Runners is faster than fast. That being said, the Bolles- Pine Crest dual meet would be one dual meet I would pay admission for.  Carrollton nips Ransom at ROC and both of these schools figure to show large improvements by season's end. At midseason, it looks like those two schools lead the race for third..... but watch out for West Florida Tech.  WFT didn't match up with RE and Carrollton in ROC, but did defeat teams right below it in the invite race, namely  Bishop Kenny, Trinity Prep, Titusville. and Eastside ( with those three) are all showing that they can challenge near 5th with improvement.  Guarantee that Gibbons will have alate season peak. Still waiting for Lemon Bay to "kick it in gear".  If I was a betting man, I would wager they will be better than tenth at end of season.  Finally, watch out for Immokalee.  These traditional "late starters" have a solid 1-2 and have a history of peaking late. I still expect them to be top 10 by season's end. Unfortunately regions are not balanced.  My next rankings will try to get region previews somewhat in order.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Bolles (1) An off week for the girls from Bolles.  Clearly maintains the #1 spot
2. Pine Crest (2) Ran well in ROC at Fl Runners.  Top 3,including a 6th grader, best top 3 in state
3. Carrollton (5) Solid finish at ROC
4. Ransom Evereglades (4) Still waiting for number 2 to finish a race; ran well from 3 to 8 in ROC
5. West Florida Tech (7) Slowly rising in the ranks with a strong FL runners race
6. Bishop Kenny (3) Tight pack at FL Runners
7. Trinity Prep (NR) Somehow I lost track of this quality team earlier
8. Titusville (6) Solid FL Runners Race
9 Cardinal Gibbons (8) Ditto
10. Lemon Bay (9) Who else notices their improvement?
11. Eastside (13) On edge of top 10, one way or the other
12. Academy of Holy Names (11) Rock solid 1-2 punch
13. Lake Highland Prep (10) Solid program
14. Wakulla  (NR) Looking for depth
15. Bishop Moore (14) Solid team
16. Immokalee (15) This well coached group has two runners fit…. When they have 5, they will be a top 10 team

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Wilson holds the number one ranking based upon beating Montgomery head to head, but Montgomery has defeated top runners of other classes and ran well at ROC.  18:24 speaks fo itself.   Claire Castillo runs very strong and is nearing the magic 19:00 mark.  Madison Harris may be anywhere from 1 to 10... hard to tell until a direct match up occurs. Yared is only a sixth grader and improving very rapidly.  Rogers doesn't race much before state... but is a two time runner up.  Hard to believe 8 runners will beat her in  a state race if she is prepared to run.  Archer is a late season peaker, but always ready for state meets.  Beware Anita Munoz!  remember she was runner up in track, a top finisher in last year's 5K,  and has the skills to get on the podium. Watching her run last year would make  you think that is she gets fit, she will challenge to get near Montgomery and Wilson.  The 21:00 cut off is now 20:28. Yes guys, I know FL Runners is a very, very fast course!!! But so is Tallahassee!!! It is crystal clear that there is more individual talent in AA this year than in recent years.  Pine Crest and Bolles alone tilting the scales.  Last year's tenth will eb worth this year's third.  Lots of individual stars with the potential to run a stellar race.... way more than in 2012!!!

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1A Mackenzie Wilson- Bolles (1A) Still holds top seed due to only head to match up with Montgomery
1B Julia Montgomery- Pine Crest (1B) Great race at ROC
3. Ally Hadja- Bolles (3) You don't drop a spot by not racing one week
4. Claire Castillo - Titusville (6) 19:03 in invite section of Fl runnnrs
5. Madison Harris - Wakulla (8) I warned you, Harris wins Mosely run by 40 seconds!!  Beware when she actually meets top 4
6. Tsion Yared- Pine Crest (9) When a sixth grader runs this fast ( 19:12) in such a loaded race… be ready for even more
7. Katherine Jovanovic- Pine Crest (7) 19:23 in Pine Crest third runner
8. Lauren Archer- Ransom Everglades (4) A bit meek in ROC, but will likely be better than 8 when it counts
9. Daesha Rogers- Jackson (5) Never races much til the state meet, but she is is a two time runner up
10 Rachel Shapiro - Bolles (10) Hold top 10 with PR at battle of Atlanta two weeks ago
11. Meagan Giddeons-Taylor County (21) 19:36 Alligator lake
12. Anita Munoz-Immokallee (NR) Good to see her back in the mix- expect her in top 5 soon

3A Girls Rankings
By: John Stevenson, Sarasota HS, jrsteve2@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Estero is the clear favorite with 4 runners in the 18's! Sarasota moves into 2nd place with their placement at FL Runners. Estero and Sarasota are 2 of 3 teams in the state that have 5 runners under 20 minutes. Most of my rankings are based on how teams finished at FL Runners except a couple exceptions like Merrit Island. I based my rankings on a few things: 1) Head-to-head battles 2) the course and 3) spread. Estero is the #1 team in all classifications with a tight 2-4 with Sarasota, Fort Walton Beach, and Fort Myers. Biggest jump up is Lakewood Ranch from 11 to 6. Welcome back Gulf Coast and Robinson to the rankings.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Estero, 3 (1) Undefeated season continues with dominate victory at Flrunners and North Port Invite. 4 girls under 19. Not much can derail this train.
2. Sarasota, 3 (5) Placed 6th overall in the Race of Champions at Flrunners with a 36 second spread. Was the 2nd highest 3A team to finish in the ROC. Placed 2nd to Estero at North Port with 19:47 average. 1-5 have SB's all under 20.
3. Fort Walton Beach, 1 (3) 3rd fastest team in 3A at Flrunners with 19:54 average. Good performance. Took 1st place at Alligator Lake Invite with 19:46 average and 1:37 spread.
4. Fort Myers, 3 (6) Finished just behind FWB at FL Runners with 19:49 average, but was behind FWB by just 14 points. If the 5th or 6th runner can step up, then they move past FWB.
5. Seabreeze, 2 (7) 10th place finish in the ROC at Flrunners, just behind Fort Myers with 20:07 average. If they want to move up their 5th is going to need to improve.
6. Lakewood Ranch, 3 (11) Big jump from 2 weeks ago! They had a great showing at FL Runners with huge races from Ortiz and Wrary! 20:34 average and a 90 second spread.
7. Nease, 1 (2) I haven't figured out Nease. I wish the team competed at FL Runners. I do have to give them a spot above Creekside from their head-to-head matchup at the Mandarin Mustand Classic with 1 minute average faster then Creekside.
8. Pace, 1 (4) Have not raced for 2 weeks, but will see what they have a Pre-State. I expect a huge performance
9. Creekside, 1 (9) Finished just 3 points behind LWR at FL Runners with 20:34 average and 70 second spread. 2-5 went 90, 92, 98, 100 in points. If they can improve together, then possible top 5 finish.
10. Gulf Coast, 3 NR Great to see them back in the rankings. Thanks to Barlow's return. 7th place finish at North Port with team average of 20:39 and a 21st finish at FL Runners with 20:37 average.
11. Niceville, 1 (12) 4th place at Alligator Invite with 20:38 average and 1:25 spread. Placed 6th at the Invitational Race at FL Runners with 21:04 average.
12. Ocala Vanguard. 2 (10) Was 5th place behind Niceville at Alligator Invite with 20:25 average and 2:43 spread. Need 4-5 to move up to compete with top dogs.
13. Merritt Island, 4 (8) Placed 25th in the ROC at Flrunners without their #3. 21:02 average with a spread of 1:05.
14. Ponte Vedra, 1 (13) Placed 8th at Alligator Lake Invite with 21:16 average and 2:46 spread ahead of St. Augustine. Took 2nd at Ponte Vedra Invite with 21:00 average and 2 minute spread
15. Robinson, 3 NR Robinson keeps me on my toes thanks to the performance from #5 Arellie Ellis…dropped over 2:30 from previous race. Good performance at the Invitational Race at FL Runners with 20:40 average and about a 2 minute spread.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: What a great couple weeks of racing! FL Runners was a fantastic showing for many runners with a dominate performance by Karen Xiang. Some fast courses these past two weeks with Alligator, North Port, and FL Runners.  I find it interesting that out of the top 30 by computer rankings, only 6 do not have season bests from Alligator, FL Runners, or NOPO. It will be exciting to see how the rankings hold up for Pre-State in a couple weeks.

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Karen Xiang, 12, Nease 1 17:52. Clearly a league of her own with a great performance at FLRunners. She holds the fastest time in the state and still undefeated for the season.
2. Emily Edwards, 12, Ft. Myers 2 18:04. Tried to real in Xiang in the last mile but just couldn't close the gap. Emily finished 3rd at North Port Invite. I'm really intrigued with the duel between Emily and Araceli from Estero...so far they are tied 3-3 for the season.
3. Araceli Leon, 12, Estero 3 18:21. Araceli has been going back and forth with Emily Edwards since the beginning of the season. Finished 6th at FL Runners. Took the overall victory at North Port by runner her PR.
4. Caroline Barlow, 12, Gulf Coast NR 18:29. Was originally ranked 4th. First race of season was at North Port with 18:33 placing 2nd and finished 7th at FL Runners.
5. Devin Molloy, 9, Barron Collier 5 18:32. Huge PR at FL Runners. Leads all freshman in the state. Give the nod over Bethany with higher finishes at North Port (4th) and FL Runners (8th).
6. Bethany Jenkins, 12, Estero 4 18:27. Bethany has ran well in the past 3 weeks finishing 9th at FL Runners with 18:39 and a 5th place finish at North Port with 18:46.
7. Katie Slater, 12, Estero 9 18:40. Big PR at FL Runners finishing 11th. Top 3 now for Estero providing great leadership for the top ranked team.
8. Emma Rudman, 10, Fort Walton 7 18:40. Didn't quite have the race she wanted at FL Runners finishing 21st with a time of 18:55, but had a great race at Alligator Lake taking 1st place. Look for Emma to bounce back at Pre-State.
9. Daley Cline, 10, Estero 6 18:44. Times keep dropping for Daley. 19:03 at North Port finishing 8th and 18:44 at FL Runners finishing 12th.
10. Breeana Salcedo, 10, Cypress Lake 8 19:00. Finished 24th at FL Runners by runner her PR. Breeana is racing very consistently this year. Finished 12th at North Port with 19:27.
11. Hannah Giangaspro, 12, Bartram Trail 17 18:53. Huge PR for Hannah at Ponte Vedra placing 1st.
12. Adair Lyden, 10, Lake Nona 10 19:18. Might be disappointed with her FL Runners performance with 19:27 compared to her 2012 performance of 18:42
13. Audrey Carpenter, 11, Ocala Vanguard 12 18:55.  Finished 3rd at Alligator Lake Invite. Took the overall at Marion County with 19:10.
14. Kianna Bonnet, 10, Seebreeze 13 19:23. Ran well at FL Runners finishing  37th. Placed 1st at Embry-Riddle meet with 20:15 at a very tough course.
15. Rachel Kling, 11, Pace 11 19:37. Hasn't raced since Sept. 14th. Looking forward to see her at Pre-State.
16. Sage Lyons, 9, Sarasota 21 19:12. Placed 10th at North Port. Had a disappointing race at FL Runners but a key freshman helping Sarasota rise in the rankings.
17. Amber Philpott, 10, Springstead 14 19:16. Placed 3rd at Mitchell Invite with 19:31. Good to see Amber is back in the 19's.
18. Megan Giovanniello, 9, Ida S. Baker 15 19:32. The freshman is running great. Placed 13th at North Port Invite.
19. Elizabeth Mulford, 11, Ocala Vanguard 16 19:26. Placed 4th at Alligator Lake. Part of the 1-2 punch with teammate Audrey. Finished behind her teammate at Marion County with 19:42
20. Maggie Parrish, 10, Chamberlain 22 19:21. Finished 3rd at the Invitational race at FL Runners. Huge PR!
21. Bethany Hardcastle, 11, South Fork 19 19:22. Placed 4th at the Invitational race at FL Runners. PR by 20 seconds.
22. Maura Rose Poling, 9, Lely NR 19:29. Came out of no where. 2nd race ever and broke 20 minutes at Spanish River Invite, placing 2nd.
23. Angelina Grebe, 11, Sarasota NR 19:30. Keeps getting faster each race. Ran 19:33 at North Port finishing 14th. Placed 43rd at FL Runners ROC.
24. Maddy Hull, 12, Robinson NR 19:34. Placed 5th in the Invitational Race at FL Runners. Placed 17th at North Port. Nod goes to Maddy over Julia with head-to-head match up at North Port
25. Julia Ortiz, 10, Lakewood Ranch NR 19:33. Big step up from North Port to FL Runners (44th place). Took off 21 seconds. Placed 23rd at NOPO

  Dropped from rankings:
  Emily Kerns, 11, Mitchell 17
  Cheyenne Andrew, 12, Pace 20
  Elise Tutton, 10, Estero 23
  Haley Kling, 9, Pace 24
  Colleen Openshaw, 11, Creekside 25

4A Girls Rankings
By: Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS, ryanraposo@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: There weren't many major changes this week in the team rankings, most of the squads ran on ridiculously fast courses (with exception to Ponte Vedra, Manasota, and Mitchell Invites). The top teams looks to remain fairly steady in their positions although I'm sure many of those coaches weren't completely happy with their overall team performances. For everyone who thinks they've got a better race in them, don't worry, the FSU Pre-State meet is just two weeks away!

Boys State Rankings by Classifications:

1A Boys Rankings
By: Mark Caulfield, The Geneva School, markscaul@aol.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: With five weeks completed in the regular season and everyone having had opportunities to run on a variety of courses, the rankings begin to take form leading into the the ever revealing Pre-State Meet in Tallahassee next week.  Holy Trinity remains strong at the number 1 spot without racing the past two weeks.  Coach Butler has his group working hard for a big showing at the Great American Festival in Cary, North Carolina and the FSU Invitational. The Maclay School remains in the second spot as they continue to improve on the tough North Florida courses but The Geneva School and Shorecrest Prep are inching closer with strong performances at FLRunners. North Florida Christian moves into the top five for the first time with a good performance at Alligator Lake while P.K. Younge School drops a few spots while still working to tighten up their top five.  Good luck teams as we all seek to finish strong leading into the State Series!

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Holy Trinity Academy (Region 3) (1) Took two weeks off from competition for training in preparation for the Great American Festival and FSU (Pre-State) Invitational meets. With their 16:44 team average, Holy Trinity remains the dominant class of 1A. Teams may be closing the gap slightly, but not enough to strike any fear in these Tigers.
2. Maclay School (Region 1) (2) Winning the Mosely Dolphin Dash with a team average of 17:34 keeps the Mauraders in the runner up spot but a number of teams are lurking. Consistent improvement each week and excellent team depth will keep them in the podium hunt all the way to State.
3. The Geneva School (Region 2) (5) After their first two meets on somewhat slower courses, the Knights got a chance to see who they were at Flrunners when they finished 12th in the Invitational Race with an impressive 17:14 team average.
4. Shorecrest Prep  (Region 3) (3) Won the small school race at FLRunners with a 17:39 team average with 4 of 5 setting a season best or personal record. Team is talented, well coached, and improving each meet which bodes well for a late season run at the podium.
5. North Florida Christian (Region 1) (6) One of the pleasant surprise teams of the season thus far as they have steadily been moving up the rankings each poll highlighted by their recent second place finish in the Varsity Green Race at the Alligator Lake XC Invitational with a 17:47 team average.
6. P.K. Younge School (Region 2) (4) The Blue Wave drops a couple of spots this poll following their 18:00 team average at the Alligator Lake XC Invitational. Still a really good looking team that has all the ingredients for success with a top level front runner and a nice tight middle pack.
7. Pensacola Christian Academy (Region 1) (7) Still a little bit of an unknown competing in races in the Panhandle and Alabama that are difficult to compare. Still their recent 18:11 team average at the J.D. XC Invitational and their 1:30 top 5 spread make them an intersting top 10 team to keep an eye on.
8. Indian Rocks Christian  (Region 3) (8) Another talented team that is dificult to get a handle on as most of their races have remianed local on somewhat slower courses. Their 18:25 team average and 4th place finish at the Seffner Christian Invitational shows the potential within.
9. Westminster Academy (Region 4) (15) Westminister makes a nice jump into the top 10 with a win in the 1A/2A Race at the Spanish River Invitational showing steady improvement averaging 18:22 for their top 5.
10. Circle Christian School (Region 2) (9) Maintaining their Top 10 position with a consistent team effort in the Invitational Race at FLRunners averaging 18:35 through their top five.
11. Windermere Prep (Region 2) (NR) Exploding on to the scene with their recent showings at the Overbay Monte Carlo Invitational (18:29 team average) and FLRunners (18:30 team average).
12. Father Lopez Catholic High School (Region 2) (10) A sixth place finish in the unseeded B race at FLRunners with a team average of 18:50 and tight 1:20 team spread keep them near the top 10.
13. International Community School (Region 3) (19) Continuous improvement each week moves ICS up 6 spots with a fourth place finish in the small school race at FLRunners with an 18:50 average for their top five.
14. Admiral Farragut Academy (Region 3) (11) The potential loss of one of the top runners in the state has not dimished the effort for AFA who finished 5th in the small school race at FLRunners with an 18:55 average.
15. Oak Hall School  (Region 2) (12) An 18:58 team average and 6th place finish in the small school race at FLRunners. Big races coming up for them at Great American and FSU.
16. Seffner Christian Academy (Region 3) (13) An 18:52 team average of season bests at UF and the North Port Invitational. Team needs to tighten up runners 3-5 closer with their 1 and 2 to make a run at the top 10.
17. Brevard Heat (Region 3) (14) A ninth place finish in the unseeded B race at FLRunners with a team average of 19:21.
18. John Carroll High School (Region 4) (NR) 19:06 team average and 7th place finish in the small school race at FLRunners brings them into the Top 20 for the first time.
19. Miami Country Day  (Region 4) (18) Fourth place finish and 19:21 Team average at the Spanish River Invitational.
20. Seacrest Country Day (Region 3) (16) A 19:05 Team average keeps them hanging on to the final spot for a few more weeks.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: After 5 weeks of competition, things are beginning to take shape. Even more definition will be given to the rankings in the next two weeks as the FSU (Pre-State) Invitational looms where most of these talented athletes will be coming together to compete. In the meantime, Senior Troy Clark from Mount Dora Bible School takes over the top spot with an outstanding effort in the Race of Champions at the FLRunners.com Invitational clocking in at 15:44.70. Andrew Cacciatore and his Holy Trinity team elected to take two weeks off for training in preparation for two big upcoming meets. Word on the street is that he is looking to go sub 15:40. Joseph Janson from P.K. Younge continues his impressive season with three performances of 16:04, 15:57, and 16:00 over a two week period. Griffith Rutherford wins another meet and is gearing up for a run to the top. The Geneva School's Nicholas Gonzalez and teammate Isak Davis move up in the rankings to 5th and 9th with their 16:01 and 16:12 results from FLRunners while Franco Martins from Windermere Prep makes the biggest jump going from 17th to 6th with his recent 16:02 and 16:07 finishes. Good luck to all as we finish up the regular season!

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Troy Clark, Senior - Mount Dora Bible (2) Finishing 8th in the ROC at FLRunners with a sizzling 15:44 moves Troy to the number 1 spot. His coach explains that "Troy has the rare combination of desire to win, discipline to work, and willingness to lead not only on the course but in every aspect of life." Nuff said!
2. Andrew Cacciatore, Junior - Holy Trinity (1) No meets these past two weeks as Cacciatore prepares for some big efforts at Great American and FSU to improve upon his 15:57 personal best.  Look for him to not give up the number 1 spot so easily.
3. Joseph Janson, Senior - P.K. Younge (3) Finished 4th running 15:57 on the lightening fast Alligator Lake course followed up by a 16:00 twentieth place finish in the ROC at Flrunners. Janson is a "Contender" and having a great season!
4. Griffith Rutherford, Senior - North Florida Christian (4) Ran 16:19 in winning the Varsity Green Division at the Alligator Lake XC Invitational. Although others have run faster, this is the time of the year where Rutherford usually begins to move to the front of the pack.
5. Nicholas Gonzalez, Junior - The Geneva School (6) Ran 16:40 in winning the Jim Ryun Invitational on a slow Holloway Park course followed by his 16:01 third place finish in the Invitational Race at FLRunners.  Talent overcoming coaching with this one!
6. Franco Martins, Junior - Windermere Prep (17) Martins is the "Real Deal". It has been tough getting a solid read on him so far but his 16:07 in the ROC at FLRunners and a 16:02 runner up finish at the Overbay Monte Carlo makes him legit and one to watch!
7. Trevor Kattenberg, Freshman - Holy Trinity (5) No meets these past two weeks but his 16:10 twelth place finish at UF shows what he is capable of accomplishing.
8. James Daughton, Senior - Maclay School (8) Won the Mosely Dolphin Dash by 15 seconds with a season best 16:35.  With one win and two runner up finishes Daughton is gearing for a late season run at the top spots.
9. Isak Davis, Junior - The Geneva School (18) A 16:12 sixth place finish in the Invitational Race at FLRunner validates his excellent track season and places him in position to contend for a top 10 State finish.
10. Jack Rutledge, Senior - Maclay School (9) Slow courses keep times down but still can't hide talent. Ran a 16:55 in finishing 4th in the Mosely Dolphin Dash. Big test coming up at FSU.
11a. Ross Porter, Senior - Shorecrest Prep (16) Ok, these two (Porter and Peterson) must be tied at the hip and tied in the rankings. At UF Peterson runs 16:59.04 and Porter runs 16:59.06. At FLRunners, Porter runs 16:40.60 and Peterson runs 16:40.90.
11b. Luke Peterson, Sophomore - Shorecrest Prep (15) Ok, these two (Porter and Peterson) must be tied at the hip and tied in the rankings. At UF Peterson runs 16:59.04 and Porter runs 16:59.06. At FLRunners, Porter runs 16:40.60 and Peterson runs 16:40.90.
13. Cal Davidson Turner, Junior - Cardinal Mooney High School. (12) Ran a 16:44 PR third place finish at the North Port XC Invitational followed by a 17:00  fifth place finish at the tough Manasota Track Club Invitational.
14. Noah Perkins, Sophomore - Seffner Christian Academy (14) Finished 4th with a 16:47 PR at North Port XC Invitational followed up by a 3rd place 17:15 finish at Seffner Christian Invitational.
15. Trevor Quandt, Senior - Indian Rock Christian (7) Ran 17:15 on a slow Seffner Christian Invitational course falling off his 16:43 early season PR. Still one to keep an eye on.
16. Egan Kattenberg, Freshman - Holy Trinity (11) No races in two weeks, but a 16:47 PR at UF preps him for big races these next two weeks at Great American and the FSU Invitational.
17. Austin Perry, Junior - Oak Hall School (10) Ran 17:40 at FLRunners following his breakout 16:45 PR at Mountain Dew.  We'll give him a pass for now assuming something was amiss.
18. Micah Kemp, Junior - Jay High School (20) Ran 16:32 on the fast JD Mac XC Invitational course followed by a 17:26 showing at the T.R. Miller Challenge
19. Devon Bradford, Junior - Jupiter Christian (NR) Ran a 16:59 PR in finishing second in the Unseeded B Division at FLRunners.
20. Alex Strickland, Senior - North Florida Christian (22) Ran 17:02 PR at the Alligator Lake XC Invitational
21. Michael Wilson, Freshman - Holy Trinity (19) No recent races has this talented freshman eager to improve upon his 16:57 PR at Great American or FSU.
22. Joseph Ault, Senior - Circle Christian (NR) Ran 17:05 in the Invitational Race at FLRunners to move into the rankings.
23. Charles Otto, Senior - Boca Raton Christian (NR) Ran an early season 16:42 and recently won the Highlands Invitational in 17:25

25. Casey McCracken, Junior - Westminster Academy (21) Ran 17:12 at the Spanish River CC Invitational finishing 4th.

  Watch List:
Andrew Lemay, Senior - Seacrest Country Day School (NR) Ran 17:17 at the North Port CC Invitational finishing 7th.
Kola Katynski, Sophomore - The Geneva School (NR) First year runner showing steady improvement each meet with a 17:21 PR at FLRunners.
Austin Matese, Senior, Benjamin School (NR) Ran 17:25 at FLRunners
Jarod Fuller, Junior - Lakeland Christian School (NR) Ran 17:24 at FLRuners in his first race since the Holloway Park Jamboree.
Jake Mazziotta, Freshman - Maclay School (25) Ran 17:29 at the Mosley Dophin Dash finishing 7th
Patrick McNamara, Junior - Admiral Farragut Academy (13) After a great summer of training and opening the season with a sensational 16:25 on the tough Holloway Park course, a possible stress fracture has sidelined this talented Junior. Hoping for a healthy and speedy recovery.

2A Boys Rankings
By: Doug Nowlin, Pine Crest School, doug.nowlin@pinecrest.edu

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Big Thank You to Jason, his staff, and the many volunteers who made Saturday's FlRunners Invitational such a special event. The fast course and the superior competition always produce some of the fastest times of the year. Many 2a teams chose to travel to Titusville so this week's rankings will reflect the head to head competition. Even teams in different races (e.g. ROC vs. Invitational, etc.) competed on the same course and under similar conditions, so this is as close to accuracy as we may get. I want to offer a note about Trinity Prep, since a few coaches from other schools posted discussions that questioned the previous #1 selection. Titusville had a slightly faster team average two weeks ago.  That's all. I assure you, no team was intentionally slighted. Trinity Prep has raced 3 times this season and has had 3 different #1 runners. Wow!  Combine that with another favorite stat:  The fastest time by a Trinity Prep #1 runner this season is 16:11. That ranks 53rd in the State (all classes). And still Trinity Prep is undoubtedly one of the best teams (again, all classes). My point: Cross-Country is about Teamwork -- not, necessarily, fast individual times. And Trinity Prep epitomizes that quality.  All teams improved considerably during this ranking period and yes, Trinity Prep is ranked #1. Our next rankings will include FSU Pre-State.  Stay healthy!

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Trinity Prep, R2 (2) Decisive Victory at Overbay-Monte Carlo with a team average of 16:16 and a remarkable 1-6 Split of just 16 seconds!  This was followed by an impressive 4th place finish in Saturday's ROC.  Congratulations Trinity Prep!
2. Immokalee, R3 (9) Immokalee seems to have run at full-strength for the first time this season -- and what a performance.  The team average dropped to 16:56 for a 14th place at ROC.
3. McKeel Academy, R3 (4) McKeel continues to drop their team average.  They placed 16th in the ROC with an average of 16:59.  For the second time this season, McKeel defeated the strong Titusville team … this time by 50 points!
4. Titusville, R4 (1) Titusville may have dropped a few places in this ranking, but watching them run in the ROC it was apparent they are a consistently strong team.  Their average on Saturday was 17:03.  Thank you to the Titusville parents who volunteered their time on Saturday to ensure all athletes had a great racing experience!
5. Bishop Kenny, R1 (3) Missed Bishop Kenny at FlRunners, but they have been busy the last 2 weeks and have posted some impressive performances:  A SB average of 17:02 at Alligator Lake (8th place), and 2nd at Mandarin Mustang Classic with an average of 17:11.
6. Lake Highland Prep, R2 (7) Congratulations to the boys of Lake Highland Prep!  First place in the FlRunners Large School Race with a team average of 17:21.
7. Ransom Everglades, R4 (NR) They're back!  And I knew they would not be away for long.  The Ransom boys placed 8th in the FlRunners Invitational with a team average of 17:20.
8. Tampa Jesuit, R3 (8) Tampa Jesuit placed 9th in the FlRunners Invitational race with a team average of 17:27.  But that was without their #1 runner.  Let's hope he is able to return to the team soon -- and Tampa Jesuit will certainly be even stronger.
9. Rockledge, R4 (5) The Rockledge team placed 10th at the FlRunners Invitational race with a team average of 17:28.  However, Rockledge Runner Robert Jones won the JV race with a very strong time of 17:39 -- which would have made him the #4 varsity runner on Saturday.  That means Rockledge is deep and this is a team that may be moving back up in the rankings.
10. Pine Crest, R4 (11) Our Pine Crest boys continue to improve.  They have lowered their team average to 17:28, which placed P.C. 12th in the FlRunners Invitational.  And for the first time in several years, we have boys who have broken 17:00.  Keep up the good work, team.
11. Bishop John J. Snyder, R1 (12) When some teams changed classifications this year, Bishop Snyder moved from 1a to 2a, and I completely missed it.  But they are proving to be a strong team in 2a.  They finished 5th in Saturday's Ponte Vedra race with a time of 17:48.
12. West Florida Tech, R1 (10) West Florida Tech placed 18th at FlRunners Invitational with a team average of 17:51.  Very consistent season to date.
13. Lemon Bay, R3 (NR) Last year I was the pollster for 2a girls.  The Lemon Bay girls gave my team a run for our money at the State Championship last November.  Looks like the Lemon Bay boys are going to do the same.  The Lemon Bay boys won Saturday's Unseeded "B" race with an average of 18:09.  Congratulations, Lemon Bay!
14. Bishop Moore, R2 (NR) Bishop Moore placed 23rd at the FlRunners race with a team average of 18:04.  Welcome back to the rankings!
15. Bolles, R1 (6) Bolles most recent race was at the Battle of Atlanta.  Not sure if they ran full-strength.  Best performance this season continues to be the North Florida 110% Invitational.  Look forward to seeing them at Pre-State.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: The season is progressing, and the times are dropping.  This week I made the cut-off 16:40 and we have 20 young men who have met that standard.  Congratulations!  Keep pushing the pace because I know you are inspiring so many others to do the same.  Stay healthy, get lots of rest, and have a great race at FSU Pre-State.

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:

3. Austin Decker, Sr., Bolles (2) Austin traveled to Georgia and took 2nd place in the "Battle of Atlanta" HS cross-country race with a time of 16:14.  He continues to have a high ranking because he raced many others on this list at Katie Caples, and won the head-to-head competition with his 3rd place finish.  SB = 16:13 (NF 110%).

14. Aaron Goldstein, Soph., Trinity Prep (NR) Aaron has the distinction of being the fastest #6 runner in the State of Florida (based on SB times).  Indeed, he could easily be the #1 runner for the majority of Florida Boys HS teams.  His SB is 16:27 from Overbay-Monte Carlo and he ran 16:40 at ROC.
15. Jonathan (Jack) Klumpp, Sr., North Broward  (5) Jack was invited to run the ROC as an individual.  He ran 16:28 (SB).

3A Boys Rankings
By: Ryan Lowe, Lake Nona HS, ryan.lowe@ocps.net

Team Rankings:

Commentary: It seems like the FLRunners Invitational answered a couple of questions about team depth and it also showed the dominance of 3A with 7 of the top 12 teams in the ROC.  The next big race will be Pre-State as most of the top teams in 3A will finally all line-up looking to dethorne #1 Belen and continue the 3A stronghold over the rest of the state.    You will find these rankings to be a little different as I've ranked the top 6 in each region since we are getting closer to the post-season.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Belen Jesuit, R4 (1) Showed why they are top team by winning the ROC at FLRunners with a 16:04 average.
2. Fort Walton Beach, R1 (3) 2nd place finish in ROC would put them as #1 team in any other classification
3. Chiles, R1 (2) Did not run this past weekend but they had a nice run at the Alligator.
4. St. Augustine, R1 (9) They continue to move up after a good run in the ROC.
5. Estero, R3 (5) Finished two points behind St. Augustine in the ROC, they are getting better each week.
6. Leon, R1 (12) Took the weekend off but Alligator run showed they have top runner in 3A.
7. Niceville, R1 (7) #2 runner did not score in ROC and they still had a 16:43 average.
8. Sarasota, R3 (8) Finished three points behind St. Augustine in the ROC; can #5 catch a few more runners?
9. Ft. Myers, R3 (4) Shaping up to be a nice 3-way battle for the region 3 title.
10. Land O'Lakes, R2 (6) A strong run at the North Port Race has LOL in good position for region 2 title.
11. Pembroke Pines Charter, R4 (10) Team average dropped a bit after in the ROC but they still look like a solid #2 in region 4.
12. Creekside, R1 (14) Holding on by a thread in region 1, #4-5 must continue to improve.
13. Ocala Vanguard, R2 (13) Won the MCIAC title with almost perfect score.
14. Matanzas, R2 (NR) Made a strong move up the rankings with a great run FLRunners.
15. Robinson, R3 (10)
16. Naples, R3 (NR)
17.  Lakewood Ranch, R3 (NR)
18. Gainesville, R2 (NR)
19. Archbishop McCarthy, R4 (NR)
20. Melbourne, R4 (NR)
21. Edgewater, R2 (NR)
22. Merritt Island, R4 (NR)
23. Lecanto, R2 (NR)
24. South Fork, R4 (NR)

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: The past two weeks have seen some amazing times for the middle of the season as the Alligator, ROC, and North Port Races have all given us great competition and FAST times.  It looks like Pre-State is shaping up to be another excellent race and it will answer most of the head-to-head questions as we prepare for the postseason.

Team Rankings:

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. St. Thomas (2) Placed 3rd @ Flrunners ROC 16:19 Tem Average..Heavy rains couldn't slow down Aquinas #1-4 is intimidating but #5 is a liability.
2. Coral Reef (4) Placed 5th @ Flrunners ROC 16:21 Team Average… Another A for effort, for the barracudas but without #5 they may not finish in the top 3…
3. Sunset (1) Placed 6th @Flrunners ROC 16:23 Team Average… I believe they have the best 3 in the state and can upset St. Thomas but the #4 & #5 must have a great race
4. Mandarin (3) Placed 7th @ Flrunners ROC 16:39 Team Average… Mandarin has a 1-2 punch and a group that is following… Its Nice that Duval County has let this team travel look for them to reach new hights in 2013…
5. Timber Creek (7) Placed 1st @ Manasota Track Club Invitational 16:56 Team Average on a slow course
6. Columbus (9) Placed 13th @ Flrunners ROC 16:59 Team Average… Nice Pack Running is making Columbus a force!
7. Lyman (6) Placed 15th @ Flrunners ROC 16:58 Team Average… The Greyhounds made strides at Flrunners! Watch for them to have a second half of the season surge!!
8. Winter Park (5) Placed 18th @ Flrunners ROC  17:04 Team Average but missing the #4 Runner… An eleven-point loss to Dp is not enough to drop the Wildcats in a big way
9. Dr. Phillips (8) Placed 17th @ Flrunners ROC 17:00 Team Average...The Panthers had their first setback this week. It will be an opportunity for us to see how this young team reacts after a defeat.
10. Plant (14) Placed 1st @ Seffner Christian Invite 17:33 Team Average on a slow course… Guyton had an impressive effort last week winning Seffner Invite….Plant is coming back up the rankings!!!!
11. Lake Mary (NR) Placed 19th @ Flrunners ROC 17:04 Team Average … Talk about a team no one is talking about…. Lake Mary has a front runner in Ryan DeGale…
12. Sarasota Riverview (10) Placed 2nd @ Manasota Track Club Invite 17:43 Team Average…..The loss to Timber Creek was a setback for sure, and they have to learn how to be on top of their game every week.
13. Colonial (11) Placed 6th @Flrunners Invite 17:24 Team Average But Joel Ortiz The #1 for the Grenaiders was not himself
14. Olympia (NR) Placed 23rd @ Flrunners ROC 17:18 Team Average
