In Her Own Words: Alex Eaton: Cross Country For A Cause

What's up Flrunners?
Last Tuesday, Shorecrest had our Bay Conference Meet. It was kind of an odd day to have the meet, so only four teams showed up. We knew we would have yet another try at getting a perfect score. We felt pumped, and we were exited to try to get that 15 points!

The girls team rocked pink ribbon instead of yellow ribbon at this meet to support breast cancer awareness month. My teammate Rachel Knauf's, mother is battling breast cancer. Rachel had the great idea of wearing pink ribbon and we even wrote Jodi on our ribbons. It felt great to race for a cause and help Mrs. Knauf in her battle against cancer.

Before we knew it, the race started and the first seven were all Shorecrest girls. This was more of a tempo-type run for the team and we gave great effort without killing ourselves.Shorecrest held the top seven positions to the finish. I won, followed by Olivia Rovin, Sophia Velsey, Savannah Broome, Kai Greenless, Caya Sabota, and Rachel Knauf. We got a perfect score and then some. Also, my teammate Peninah Benjamin placed 11th (we ran eight girls). This was the perfect thing to pump us up going into post season. We are going to have some big PRs and big peaks, I know it!

After we finished and got some water and snacks, our boys started. Again, Shorecrest was strong at the lead. Ross Porter led and eventually won, followed by Luke Peterson, Josh Miles, Justin Scoby, and Casey Cuerton. Fifteen points for the boys too! Other runners placed 6th and 7th, but all shorecrest boys (Josh Katz and Matt Meismer) finished in the top ten.

We were awarded our Bay Conference onference flags and we took pictures with them as our capes. We always joke around and have a lot of fun together.

Going into post-season, we decided to do something special to really bond the boys and girls varsity teams. We decided to pair up a varsity girl and boy, and have them be "brother and sister". "Brothers and sisters" bring each other baked goods and Gatorade throughout the post-season to school. We always greet our siblings and tell each other how much we love each other. It's really fun and a great way to bond. I love my little brother Casey Cuerton. Shoutout my "little brother" for being so sweet and awesome. He was the boys number one jv runner as a freshman and he trained really hard over the summer and now scores as our 5th guy.

This Friday we have districts and we are beyond excited! We get to run, and miss school Friday Hello, three day weekend! Shorecrest boys and girls teams are looking to defend their district titles.

How is it already mid-October and district time? This year has flown by. Best of luck to everyone in the post-season!
