UCONN Women's & Men's Basketball Teams Feature Two Former Florida Tracksters

When number one ranked UCONN takes on Notre Dame in the women's basketball NCAA Championship Tuesday night the squad will feature a familiar name to Florida track and field fans.

Briana Pulido, a three time-state qualifier and nine time medalist over her high school career at Archbishop Carroll and Gulliver Prep committed to the Huskies her senior year, but for track and field. She competed through the 2013 outdoor season, but realized she missed her true love; basketball.

Pulido decided to take a chance and try to walk on to the school's nationally ranked basketball team. Now, were not talking your run of the mill, average program. Coach Geno Auriemma and UCONN are one of the winningest tandems in NCAA women's basketball., capturing eight national championships.

Her mom Tee Pulido, told us her daughter had been playing basketball since she was nine years old and has always been a good player.

"They were looking for walk-ons back in May and she made it known she was interested. She was at the right place at the right time and God paved the way!"

The 5-7 guard made the team and has seen limited playing time in 26 games this season; scoring six points in 61 minutes. The Huskies will look to sweep the national titles after the men clinched theirs on Monday.

Another former Florida track and field star Amida Brimah,  a native of Ghana, finished in a tie for third at last year's 2A state championships with a mark of 6-2 in the high jump while at Archbishop Carroll. Brimah a freshman at UCONN, played in 40 games and started in 17 of those. Coming off the bench in the NCAA Championship, Brimah pulled down four rebounds for the Huskies.

From track and field to the largest stages in college basketball. Congratulations to Briana and Amida. We will be cheering you on in your future endeavours on the hardwood!
