The wait is over. Kaylin Whitney has announced she will become a professional athlete and sign with Nike. According to a text from her father DuWayne Whitney, the 17 year old made the decision today on her birthday. In January, Whitney he IAAF World Junior triple medalist said she would forego her junior season at East Ridge High School and enroll in virtual school to enable her to train with Dennis and Damu Mitchell of the Star Athletics program.
Whitney had this to say on Instagram:
So blessed and thankful to have the opportunity to officially announce that I am a professional track athlete! @star_athletics @usatf #justdoit
She also echoed those sentiments on Twitter:
@KaylinWhitney: Humbled and blessed to have the opportunity to announce I am a professional track athlete! #justdoit @usatf
Whitney is considered the next Allyson Felix and the future of women's sprinting in the United States. Her goal has been and continues to be the 2016 Olympics in Rio and with this huge decision behind her the focus will become even sharper. Congratulations to Kaylin!
