As I was planning my summer, I knew I wanted a change of pace. I had been to Team Prep USA in previous years, but only for a few days. When offered the opportunity to come for pre-camp and post-camp I immediately jumped on it. A smaller, more elite group of people come to these sections of camp which makes it more intimate and motivating.
Surrounding yourself with great talent pushes you to be the best individual you can be-- there are runners from several countries and many states in attendance. Not to mention the incredible, scenic runs you encounter while up in Colorado. Obviously, being from south Florida, hills are a big challenge, but it is always fun to experience something you're not familiar with. After your runs you are then faced with icing in freezing rivers or creeks. Something again I am not accustomed to, but I believe is an exciting new experience which I love. The main reason so many athletes come from around the world is because of the training in such a high altitude. It takes a couple weeks to get your body fully used to the elevation and lack of oxygen, so don't be alarmed when you are out of breath within your first few minutes of a run.
This is my last year in high school and I believe this is my year. I have never pushed myself this much. I have established goals for my season that, I believe, if I work hard enough I can reach. This is my last chance to show what I am made of as a competitor, athlete, and leader of my team.
