1A Girls Rankings

By: Mark Caulfield, Circle Christian School, markscaul@aol.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: With this being the last Poll of the Regular Season, rankings have certainly tightened with 8 of the top 10 teams showing up and having strong efforts at the FSU Pre-State Meet. And despite being deep into the season, most of the top team have yet to "put it all together" making the upcoming State Series a highly anticipated event. Holy Trinity continues to remain atop of the polls and looks very tough to beat. Circle Christian and Westminster Christian traded higher finishes with one another at FLrunners and FSU and are tied at the #2 spot. Realistically, any one of the Top 7 teams are capable of competing for the Podium with traditional powers Maclay School and Oak Hall looking to get healthy and make a run. Best of luck to all the 1A teams as they seek to prepare for the upcoming District Championships.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region = Comments

1. (1), Holy Trinity, 3 = Individually HTA keeps getting faster and have dominated the top spot all season and yet they have not had a meet where all five have run well on the same day. Individual Rankings:

Commentary: You have got to love a meet where 24 of the Top 30 runners in the State all come together to compete. Even though many ran in different races, the FSU Pre-State meet gives a great barometer to evaluate rankings and get a glimpse of what might be. In near perfect racing conditions, Calvary Christian Senior Hannah Brookover was the first 1A and 6th overall finisher and secures the Top Class 1A ranking. Although Brookover may now be the favorite going into the State Series, expect a tight "race to the tape" between at least four who gave us a glimpse at FSU with Rebecca Clark of Mount Dora Christian Academy, Grace Blair of Oak Hall, and Shelby Smith of Holy Trinity all running great races and are all within 20 seconds of one another. Because of the volume of recent fast times and competitive fields, we extend the girl rankings all the way to 30 this week. Good luck to all as you prepare to finish strong through the State Series.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade -- Team = Comments

1. (1), Hannah Brookover, 12th, Calvary Christian = With her second consecutive finish in front of Clark at FSU Brookover secured the #1 spot outright going into the State Series. Her recent 6th Place finish in 18:13 (PR) at FSU Pre-State has the talented Senior eyeing her first State Title.

3. (5), Grace Blair, 10th, Oak Hall = An outstanding 12th place finish at FSU Pre-State in a Personal Record time of 18:34 has vaulted the defending State 800m Champ into the conversation for the State Cross Country Title. Historically, she races her best at the biggest meet.

4. (3), Shelby Smith, 12th, Holy Trinity = A 17th place finish at FSU in 18:45 and a recent Season Best of 18:25 on the fast West Orange Inv. course has the HTA Senior positioning herself in the mix for the State win.

2A Girls Rankings

By: Mike Becker, several schools

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Touche to Pine Crest for its victory at pre state and to Bolles for defeating every other Florida School. I told you that these were Alpha and Beta dogs in some order… PC wins round 1… but state remains cloudy…. As PC was missing a healthy little Yared, while Bolles appears to have been missing runners in back of top 7 due to SAT? Anyway, these two schools remain that close. I am predicting it will take 40 points to win and many of the top individuals will not have full teams… Here's how it looks…. As of October 13…. Bolles takes #1 (barely), while PC grabs 2 and 3. Bolles clearly stronger all year at 4 and I don't see that changing. Thus it will come to 5 as cross country races should… And that's where it gets interesting due to depth of overall field… I still say look out for Lemon Bay if anyone can challenge Ransom for third… (Satellite full roster would be 3 of course)

Rank. Team - Comments

1. Pine Crest

2. Bolles

3. Satellite - *** this would be the full satellite team

4. Ransom Everglades -- Great year

5. Satellite ** this would be their state eligible team

6. Lake Highland

7. Eastside

8. St Brendans

9. Trinity Prep

10. Lemon Bay

11. Bishop Kenny

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: A dozen girls under 19:00!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing… It looks like Collier goes in to last month as a clear favorite, having defeated each of the other 11 girls… That being said… wow… there are studdettes capable of breaking 18:00 and beating her if course is fast… If I had one pick to upset Collier, it would be Matysik of Key West who just ran the best race at Larry and Penny Thompson that has been run in ten years…5:35 first mile

Rank. Name -- School -- Comments.

1. Caitlin Collier - Bolles -- Undefeated in AA… Can't see her being outkicked… so to defeat her will take breaking race into mid 17:40s at least

3. Alyssa Pujals -- pre state break out race

4. Tsion Yared- Pine Crest -- still defending State champion

5. Nicole Matysik -- Key West.. The 18:27 she ran at Larry and Penny is second fastest all time only to Stephanie Schappert….

6. Leigha Torino - Marion

7. Lauren Archer -- Ransom Everglades

8. Natalie Varela -- 18:44 at L and P is very impressive

9. Maggie Rice - Newberry

10. Julia Montgomery - Pine Crest- two time state cross country champion can never be counted out

11. Mackenzie Wilson Bolles -- always with Montgomery

12. Amanda Beach -- Melbourne

13. Skye Zeller -- Space Coast

14. Ally Hadja- Bolles

15. Grace Gerry- Bishop Kenny

16. Rachel Shapiro- Bolles

3A Girls Rankings

By: Steve Farnsworth, Lecanto HS, farnsworthfarm@yahoo.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: The rankings are now based solely on times and performances from the last three weeks -- this poll measures what teams and individuals are doing now, not what they ran on fast courses earlier in the season. Adjustments: Pre-State times are being taken at face value, even though they were pumped up by the competition, and most runners will not match them at the state meet or again this season. The Buchholz Bobcat, West Orange, and Bronco Classic meets were all run on fast courses -- no adjustments will be made, but times from these meets may be discounted a little. The Knight's Dungeon appears to be a short course, but since it doesn't affect the 3A girl's rankings, no adjustment is needed. This poll lists the top six teams in each region, plus the next best team as a wild card. Teams that are top 25, but were bumped out by being in a tough region are listed under honorable mention. Best team averages in last three weeks are given for reference only and are not the only basis for rankings, and do not follow them completely -- head to head competition and consistency in performance is also considered.

4A Girls Rankings

By: Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS, ryanraposo@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: With Pre-State out of the way, all of the huge statewide competitions have come to a close and now we're getting into the championship season. Less than four weeks away from the State Championship, everyone has fallen into various categories based on their abilities, progression, or stagnation shown this season. While some teams might be able to wiggle around for a slot or two, most teams would be hard pressed to see major changes at this point. For all four regions I listed both the 6th and 7th teams (in a tie) because on any given day, either one could possibly advance to the State meet. Kudos to Region 1 and Region 2 for placing all of their teams in the top 15 this season; once again South Florida is making up the bottom half of this listing.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region = Comments

* Podium Contenders: As of now it appears to be the same as it did before the season started. Three teams vying for two spots. With less than a month to go, we'll see who can close the gap on, or push away from, their competitors.

1. (1) Winter Park, 1 = 19:24 Team Avg., 4th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite ~ Even with what could be called an underperformance in Tallahassee they're still the team to beat in 4A. Go Wildcats!

2. (3) Dr. Phillips, 1 = 19:47 Team Avg., 6th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite ~ After a solid performance at Pre-State, the Panthers have notched themselves as the top team for 2nd place podium contention.

3. (4) Sarasota, 2 = 19:59 Team Avg., 9th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite ~ Finally back to running with a full squad we should be seeing exactly what these Sailors are made of in the upcoming weeks.

* Top Ten Squads: Everyone here is progressing at the right time and appears to be the solid teams that will make the state record books, and hope for a top five slot. Mandarin made a surprise jump into the mix, but it will be hard pressed for any other teams to crack this group if they haven't already.

4. (2) Wharton, 2 = 20:26 Team Avg., 16th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite (w/o #3 B. Rivers) ~ Although not quite at full strength, I don't know if the Wildcats have the depth and consistency to truly make a state podium.

5. (5) St. Thomas Aquinas, 4 = 20:58 Team Avg., 26th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite (w/o #1 A. Cruz) ~ Although not quite a top ten team without Alexa Cruz, with her the Raiders should return to top five prowess.

6. (11) Mandarin, 1 = 20:27 Team Avg., 1st place @ FSU Pre-State Select ~ A majorly impressive performance at Pre-State, the Mustangs tore up the course and the competition. Definitely the top performance of the week!

7. (8) Lourdes, 4 = 20:34 Team Avg., 19th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite ~ Although there is some inconsistency within their top 7 and their performances in smaller competitions, the depth and strength of the Bobcats will carry them into another solid top ten performance at the big show.

8. (6) Plant, 2 = 20:37 Team Avg., 21st place @ FSU Pre-State Elite ~ While they didn't have their best performance of the season at FSU, the Panthers are still clearly a top ten team even on a sub-par day.

9. (7) Newsome, 2 = 21:43 Team Avg. (pack running and w/o #1 & #5 Somrah sisters), 1st place @ Don Bishop ~ While not putting their aces on the line recently, I know the Wolves will put it together once the championships come around and stay in the top ten.

10. (9) West Orange, 1 = 20:39 Team Avg., 25th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite ~ Rounding out the top ten, just a slim margin from those ahead, the Warriors need to keep working hard to maintain their position.

* No Man's Land: Although all worth state level teams, all of these squads appear to be boxed out of the top ten. Although still possible to get there, these squads unfortunately have to focus on having strong regional performances because when you're in the bottom half of Region 1 or Region 2, no team is guaranteed to advance.

11. (NR) George Steinbrenner, 2 = 20:59 Team Avg., 2nd place @ FSU Pre-State Select

12. (NR) Winter Springs, 1 = 21:08 Team Avg., 5th place @ FSU Pre-State Select

T-13. (10) Lakewood Ranch, 2 = 22:15 Team Avg. (w/o #4 K. Scully), 2nd place @ Bradenton Runners Club

T-13. (12) North Port, 2 = 21:14 Team Avg., 28th place @ FSU Pre-State Elite

* The Bottom Half: All of the teams below this point are below the "Regional Death" line which happens to be drawn by Region 2 this season. If any of these teams were in Region 2, they would most likely not be advancing to the State Championship.

14. (13) Ferguson, 4 = 21:06 Team Avg., 6th place @ FSU Pre-State Select

T-15. (14) Lake Brantley, 1 = IDLE for varsity runners

T-15. (15) Hagerty, 1 = 21:09 Team Avg., 7th place @ FSU Pre-State Select

16. (16) Coral Reef, 4 = 22:16 Team Avg. (w/o #1 R. Osman), 6th place @ Junior Orange Bowl

17. (17) Wellington, 3 = 23:02 Team Avg. (w/o #1 B. Mucino), 2nd place @ Southwest

18. (20) Vero Beach, 3 = 22:36 Team Avg. (w/o #4 C. King), 3rd place @ Fleet Feet

19. (NR) Martin County, 3 = 22:33 Team Avg., 2nd place @ Fleet Feet

20. (21) Jupiter, 3 = 22:34 Team Avg., 1st place @ Palm Beach Conference

21. (22) Boca Raton, 3 = 22:38 Team Avg. @ Disney

T-22. (18) Douglas, 3 = 23:19 Team Avg. w/o #1 A. Mursten or #3 E. Thom), 7th place @ Fleet Feet

T-22. (19) Park Vista, 3 = 22:48 Team Avg., 10th place @ FSU Pre-State Varsity A

23. (23) Braddock, 4 = 23:07 Team Avg., 17th place @ FSU Pre-State Varsity A

T-24. (NR) Palmetto, 4 = 24:25 Team Avg., 14th place @ Junior Orange Bowl

T-24. (24) Coral Gables, 4 = 24:39 Team Avg., 15th place @ Junior Orange Bowl

Boxed Out from Rankings (due to being in really hard regions):

(NR) George Jenkins, 2 = 21:11 Team Avg. @ Disney

(NR) Sarasota Riverview, 2 = 21:28 Team Avg. & 11th place @ FSU Pre-State Select

(NR) Spruce Creek, 1 = 21:32 Team Avg. & 12th place @ FSU Pre-State Select

(NR) Lake Mary, 1 = 21:38 Team Avg. & 13th place @ FSU Pre-State Select

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: While most teams are pretty much set, this is never the case for individuals. Although the top four athletes on this list seem uncatchable, and although there is little change between them, this isn't the case for everyone else on this list, or that has made this list this season. Keep working hard ladies because on any given day anyone can jump or drop more than a handful of positions.

1A Boys Rankings

By: Mark Caulfield, Circle Christian School, markscaul@aol.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: By far, the most difficult team ranking ever. With so many obvious short courses distorting the MileSplit listings, this was tough discernment. What is clear though is that Maclay School is the one to beat and is looking for their 6th Boys CC State Title and their first since 2002. With a strong interchangeable Top 4 who showed strong recent performances at FSU and the Panhandle Championships, the Mauraders will be tough to beat. Father Lopez looks to have the team makeup to challenge but it will take strong efforts by their front three to match Maclay. Bishop Snyder and Shorecrest Prep are having solid seasons and consistently improving and could be in the battle for a podium spot if 3-5 step up.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region = Comments

1. (2), Maclay School, 1 = With two strong races at FSU Pre-State and the Panhandle Championships, the Mauraders make a definitive statement to all challengers that they will be the team to beat this November. Finished 3rd at FSU Select Race with a 17:16 team average followed by 17:06 (SB) team average in their win at the fast Panhandle Championship on 10/10.

1. (1), Father Lopez, 3 = Unfortunate that the much anticipated head-to-head with Mclay never materialized at FSU as 4 of their Top 6 were taking SAT's. Their 3rd Place 18:19 team average at Embry Riddle on the slow ERAU course (30-40 seconds) still give indication that the Green Wave can give Maclay a run.

3. (4), Bishop Snyder, 1 = Ran an impressive 17:45 (SB) team average to finish second in the FSU Varsity A Race followed by a solid 7th place performance at the Bronco Classic averaging 17:51.

4. (3), Shorecrest Prep, 2 = At FSU, their #1 ran in the Elite while the rest ran in Varsity A. Combining their times they had a 17:54 team average while missing their #4. They followed that effort with a runner up finish at the St. Petersburg Championships with an 18:18 team average without their #2 and #3.

5. (5), Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville), 1 = Finished 7th at the FSU Pre-State Varsity A race with a 17:56 team average followed by an 11th place 18:18 team average at the Bronco Classic.

6. (6), Westminster Academy, 4 = Finished 7th at the Fleet Feet Invitational averaging 18:36 (SB) followed by a win at the Westminster Academy Invitational averaging 19:19 on the slow WCA home course.

7. (9), Providence School, 1 = Raced to an 18:31 (SB) team average to finish 18th at the FSU Varsity A Race without their #4.

8. (7), Seffner Christian Academy, 2 = Team has been running some split squads over the past few weeks but with an 18:12 team average best makes the Crusaders an easy top 10.

9. (8), Pensacola Christian, 1 = Finished 5th at the J.R. Miller Challenge averaging 18:51 (SB).

10. (10), Miami Country Day, Region 4 -- Recent Highlight include a 14th place showing at the Jr. Orange Bowl averaging 19:22. Season Best average is 19:01 at FLrunners.

11. (14), The Pine School, 3 = Won their own Pine School Invitational averaging 19:36 on their tough home course. Season best of 19:04 at FLrunners on 9/25.

12. (17), Indian Rocks, 2 = Won the Indian Rocks Open averaging 19:08 over the fast Taylor Park course on 10/1.

13. (19), Oak Hall School, 2 = Averaged 19:10 at FSU Pre-State Varsity A Race.

14. (NR), The Geneva School, 3 = Averaged 19:22 (5th Place) in the Varsity B race at FSU and followed with an 18:58 team average at the fast West Orange Invitational.

15. (NR), Cottondale HS, 1 = Ran 19:31 team average at FSU in the Varsity B race followed by an 18:31 (SB) team average at the Panhandle Championship.

16. (20) St. Stephens Episcopal, 2 = Ran 19:38 (SB) team average at FSU in Varsity A without their #1 and #5.

17. (12), Windermere Prep, 3 = Finished 20th at West Orange Invitational with a 19:14 (SB) Team Average without their #1. Ran 18:06 Team average at Knights Dungeon on a short 2.xx course.

18. (16) Highlands Christian, 4 = Helps to have one of the top runners in the state pulling your team average and scoring to propel you into the top 20 with an 18:48 team average.

19. (15), Marathon MS/HS, 4 = Finished with a team average of 19:44 at Jr. Orange Bowl while missing #4 on a tough Larry & Penney course. Season best of 19:25 at FLrunners on 9/26.

20. (18), Coral Springs Christian, 4 = Perplexing team. Doesn't seem to have run everyone in the same race and yet have an 18:56 team average at legitimate meets. Been idle since 9/26.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Noah Perkins, the Senior from Seffner Christian is a month away from finishing something very special. He has been an outstanding representative of Class 1A this season competing and winning against the best of all classes. And it would appear he has done the way we all dream it could be done. With class and humility and consistent progressive improvement of 40-45 seconds every year since he started his Freshman year. And so has Senior Luke Peterson who has improved every year of his 7 year varsity running career at Shorecrest Prep. It is no coincidence these two sit at the top of our 2015 rankings going as we finish up the regular season. We salute these two for all they have given and the example they have set and wish them the very best as they soon conclude an outstanding high school career. Best of luck to everyone and finish strong!

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade, Team = Comments

1. (1), Noah Perkins, 12th; Seffner Christian = Perkins dream season continues. The talented Senior finished in 4th Place in 15:25 (SB) at the FSU Pre-State Elite Race followed by a big win at the Hillsborough County Championships on setting a new meet record of 15:36. Season Best still remains at 15:20 (PR) at FLrunners but look for that to go down during the State Series and Post Season.

2. (2), Luke Peterson, 12th, Shorecrest Prep = A 21st Place finish in a Personal Best 16:02 at the FSU Pre-State Elite Race followed by his third win of the season at the St. Petersburg City Championships in 16:34 shows Peterson is ready for a great post regular season.

3. (3), Ryan Szklany, 10th, Highlands Christian = In 2015 he has 5 quiet wins, 2 second place finishes, and a 3rd place finish. A 16:18 PR in the FSU Select Race shows he's ready and his surprise 3rd place finish in the State 3200m last season shows he knows how to finish the season well. Watch out for this one.

6. (5), Tucker Hindle, 12th, Boca Raton Christian = Another top contender from South Florida won the Southwest Invitational in 16:45 followed by a runner up finish in 16:58 in the 1A race at Disney. Looking to improve on last year' 11th place State Finish.

7. (9), Gabriel Curtis, 9th, Mount Dora Christian = A strong 9th place finish in 16:33 in the Select Race at FSU Pre-State makes him the 3rd fastest 9th grader in the State and a huge talent to look out for in the State Series.

8. (7), Josh Skielnik, 10th, Jupiter Christian = A second place finish to Chase Hyland on the tough Pine School Invitational course validates his impressive 16:46 (PR) at FLrunners.

2A Boys Rankings

By: Bryan Garcia, H.B. Plant High School, bcgfalcons@yahoo.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: With the regular season pretty much over, we can start to look forward to some great District and Regional races in the upcoming weeks. Trinity Prep is the best in the state and one of the best in the nation as they continued their winning ways at FSU with over a 100 point victory in the Elite Race and then won the Elite Race at Disney handily. They are by far the best team in 2A. Satellite is coming to the forefront for the number 2 position after a tremendous race at FSU. Bolles also moved up passing Labelle as Bolles also had a great race at FSU. Labelle won the 2A boys division at Disney and only time will tell where they stand in the top of the 2A field. Bishop Kenny and Pine Crest moved up with Immokalee, Calvary Christian, Titusville and West Florida Tech holding down the rest of the top 10. FSU yielded a lot of our questions as to where the majority of 2A should be, but as the postseason looms, we will quickly find out who will be running for hardware in November.

Regional Outlook: Region 1 seems to have found a favorite in Bolles as they have beaten Bishop Kenny twice in the past two weeks. You never know what BK will do in the next few weeks, however. West Florida Tech and Episcopal are pushing the pace for a 3rd place finish. Trinity Prep is in Region 2. Not much else can be said, although Lake Highland Prep looks to have a Regional runner-up spot with their name on it. Region 3 will come down to Labelle and Immokalee. Both teams have been running well as of late and it's anyone's race in three weeks. The only region to still be murky, Region 4 has Satellite as the favorite followed by Pine Crest and Calvary Christian. 3 more teams made the top 15 including Ransom Everglades, Melbourne Central Catholic and Astronaut. Those 3 teams are (for now) the three most likely teams to survive Region 4. Who knows what could happen in the next few weeks. Districts are set for next week and our 4 regions should be more clear then.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region = Comments

1. (1), Trinity Prep, Region 2 = The most dominate team at FSU two weeks ago (16 flat team average) and Disney (16:25 team average) this week, Trinity is one of the best teams in the nation as they stay undefeated. Heading into the postseason it does not look like that will change as they had 5 in the top 30 at FSU and 6 in the top 15 at Disney without their number 4 from FSU. This team will be fun to watch as they will look to roll through the first part of the postseason next week.

2. (4), Satellite, Region 4 = With an impressive 4th place performance at FSU in the elite race and a win at the Satellite Classic, Satellite moves up into the top 2. They are now in the driver's seat in Region 4 with a good duo upfront a strong top 5 with sub 17 minute potential.

3. (6), Bolles, Region 1 = Mirror images of Satellite, Bolles was 10th at FSU with a 16:37 team average in the elite race and picked up the victory at the Bronco Classic with a 16:58 team average. They defeated good teams in 3A's Bartram Trail (this past weekend coming down to 1 point) and 2A rival Bishop Kenny the past two weekends. This team will have an interesting road to the State Meet with BK there every step of the way.

4. (2), Labelle, Region 3 = Labelle showed up again at Disney winning the 2A race handily with a 16:59 team average. These guys continue to run well, and are still in the top 2 mix with another solid week of racing. This team will have a couple weeks to gear up as the postseason is right around the corner.

5. (3), Bishop Kenny, Region 1 = BK has had two strong weeks of racing with a 13th place finish at FSU in the elite race with a 16:39 team average and they followed that up with a 3rd place finish at the Bronco Classic with a 16:57 team average just 7 points back of rival Bolles. Expect BK to continue to give them a run for their money.

6. (5), Pine Crest, Region 4 = Pine Crest placed 22nd in the elite race at FSU with a 17:01 team average in the elite race. PC is heading into a tough region battle with Satellite and will be gearing up for the road to the State Meet in the next few weeks.

7. (7), Immokalee, Region 3 = Immokalee finished 27th in the FSU elite race with a 17:16 team average. They've had a week off racing today at the Collier County Championships where they took home the dub with a 17:23 team average. They will take on a tough Labelle team as they go through Districts, Regionals, and the State Meet.

8. (8), Calvary Christian, Region 4 = Calvary had a strong race in the 2A race at Disney with a 17:20 team average where they placed 3rd. With Joel Lacy back in the mix and Danny Ferro leading the front, this team is dangerous and will have the toughest region in 2A to get through in the coming weeks.

9. (11), Titusville, Region 4 = Titusville finished 6th in the Select Race at the FSU Invite with a 17:17 team average and also finished as the top 2A school in that race. This team was led by Mason Jones who took the individual title in the race and will look for that strong front runner to lead them into the postseason.

10. (10), West Florida Tech, Region 1 = Had an 8th place finish in the Select Race at the FSU Invite with a team average of 17:27. They raced this past weekend in the Elite Race at Disney finishing 9th with a team average of 17:48. We will have to see how this team fairs in the postseason in a challenging region.

11. (12), Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Region 1 = Episcopal was 17th overall in the Select Race at FSU (17:39 team average) and followed that up with a 6th place finish at the Bronco Invite (17:50 team average). Episcopal will be looking for a trip to the State Meet in the next few weeks.

12. (13), Lake Highland Prep, Region 2 = Lake Highland Prep finished 18th in the Select Race at the FSU Invite with a 17:43 team average. They were at the West Orange Invite this past weekend where they finished 6th. They will face a great team in Trinity Prep on their way to the State Meet.

13. (14), Ransom Everglades, Region 4 = Ransom finished 14 points back of LHP in the Select Race at the FSU Invite with a team average of 17:46 without star runner Gabriel Correa. With Correa back this past weekend, the team finished 3rd overall at the Junior Orange Bowl with a 17:56 team average, but once again were missing key runners. This postseason will be very interesting as they have to go to the toughest region in 2A.

14. (NR), Melbourne Central Catholic, Region 4 = Melbourne Central Catholic has had two stellar back to back meets with a 3rd place finish in the Varsity A Race at FSU with a 17:55 team average followed up by a runner-up at the Satellite Classic with a 17:41 team average. The road through postseason only gets harder as they fight to get out of a Region 4.

15. (NR), Astronaut, Region 4 = Astronaut came off with a solid win at the Bayside Invite two weeks ago. They followed that up this past weekend with a 3rd place finish at the Satellite Classic with a 17:54 team average. They have a tough District and Region. It will be fight to the State Meet.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Here are the individual pre-season rankings!

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade -- Team = Time / Comments

1. (1), Trevor Foley, 10th -- Hernando = Foley has been cruising this season coming off of a win at Weeki Wachee two weeks ago with a 16:51. This postseason will be the real test as he aims for his first state title.

2. (3), Chas Cook, 12th -- Trinity Prep = Cook has had a couple of the best races of his career. First, he went 15:44 to PR and to finish 9th in the Elite Race at FSU, and then won the Elite Race at Disney this past weekend in a time of 16:02. Cook could be the closest competitor to Trevor Foley has TP gears up for the postseason.

3. (2), Mason Jones, 11th - Titusville = Jones won the Select Race at FSU in a time of 16:06. Leading from the gun, Jones never looked back to win by 11 seconds. He is in a tough Region 4 and we will find out how he will fair in the coming weeks with his goal to take home gold at the State Meet.

4. (11), Trevor Kattenberg, 11th -- Satellite = Running 15:57 at the Elite Race at FSU, Kattenberg finished 17th overall. With his brother pushing him along with his other Satellite teammates, Kattenberg could be a dark horse for a State Title push.

5. (6), Trent Mandato, 11th -- Trinity Prep = Breaking 16 for the first time in his career at FSU, Mandato placed 19th in the Elite Race at FSU with a 15:58 PR. He followed that up with a runner-up finish at Disney in the Elite Race in a time of 16:09 and will be digging in for another top 5 finish in the coming weeks.

6. (22), Charles Hicks, 9th -- Bolles = Hicks ran incredible state leading time for freshmen in the Elite Race at FSU with a 16:06 PR where he placed 23rd. Hicks created enough first for himself winning the first meet of his young career at the Bronco Invite with a 16:24. He could be setting himself up for yet another first with District and Regional titles in his sights.

7. (11), Nathan Jubran, 10th -- Bishop Kenny = Finished behind Hicks both times in the past two weeks with less than 5 tenths of a second separating them. Jubran ran an impressive 16:06 PR at the FSU Invite and then he was the runner-up this past weekend at the Bronco Invite in 16:24. Watch for him and Hicks to duke it out on the road to States.

8. (13), Kayamo Galloway, 8th -- Trinity Prep = The 8th grade phenom continues to impress with a 16:06 PR to finish 25th in the Elite Race at FSU. This past weekend, Galloway ran 9:33 to win the 3k at Disney. He could be wearing a state medal by the time the season ends if he continues to run like he has been.

9. (8), Egan Kattenberg, 11th -- Satellite = Kattenberg had a 16:07 PR to finish 26th in the Elite Race at FSU. Surrounded by a team of talented runners, you can only expect him to continue to improve as he eyes his first state medal.

10. (4), Caleb Pottorff, 11th -- Lincoln Park = Coming off back to back wins, Pottorff is setting up for a big postseason run. He took first at the Wayne Invite in 17:24 and then won the 2A division at Disney this past weekend in 16:24. Watch out for him as we head into the postseason.

11. (10), Patrick Salas, 11th -- Trinity Prep = Salas ran a 16:08 PR in the Elite Race at FSU two weeks ago placing 28th. He is going back and forth with teammate Jesse Millson as Salas ran 16:32 this past weekend in the Elite Race at Disney placing 9th. He is on the cusp of a state medal heading down the line.

12. (7), Jesse Millson, 12th -- Trinity Prep = With a 16:05, 22nd place finish in the Elite Race at FSU two weeks ago, Millson is putting himself in position to be in the top 10 in November. He finished 10th this past weekend in a time of 16:35. Watch for the state medalist from last year to do the same in a month.

13. (19), Mason Gerry, 12th -- Bishop Kenny = Gerry ran a 16:11 PR in the Elite Race at FSU two weeks ago to place 33rd. He then ran 16:35 at the Bronco Invite placing 6th. Gerry has the teammates to push him into a top 10 finish in November.

14. (5), Michael Kennedy, 11th -- Pine Crest = Kennedy placed 36th overall in the Elite Race at the FSU Invite two weeks ago with a 16:13 PR. He medaled last season and has the ability to do so again, and with the steady improvement this season, he could show up and surprise everyone in the next month.

15. (NR), John Cacciatore, 11th -- Satellite = Cacciatore has come up huge in the past two weeks with 16:13 PR and 37th place finish in the Elite Race at FSU, and then he won the first meet of his career at the Satellite Classic in a time of 16:37. He will continue to get better with the team around him.

16. (15), Gabriel Correa, 12th -- Ransom Everglades = Correa ran an impressive season best in a time of 16:20 to place 2nd at the Junior Orange Bowl. The 3rd place finisher from last year's state meet cannot be counted out as we head into championship season.

17. (9), Danny Ferro, 10th -- Calvary Christian = Ferro placed 2nd in the 2A boys division at Disney this past weekend in a time of 16:33. Ferro has gotten back teammate Joel Lacy and the two will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming weeks.

18. (NR), Beau Butler, 12th -- Bishop Kenny = Butler ran a big PR of 16:26 in the Elite Race at the FSU Invite two weeks ago placing 50th. At the Bronco Invite this past weekend, he ran 16:39 to place 8th. Watch for a top 20 finish out of the senior.

19. (NR), Michael Wilson, 11th -- Satellite = With a 16:37 performance to finish 67th in the Elite Race at FSU two weeks ago, Wilson is aiming for a top 20 finish. He ran 16:54 last weekend at the Satellite Classic to finish 2nd.

20. (NR), Mamush Galloway, 8th -- Trinity Prep = Galloway ran a PR of 16:38 in the Elite Race at FSU two weeks ago to finish 69th. He was 3rd in the 3k at Disney this past weekend to finish in 9:50. Scary potential from the ever improving youngster heading into the postseason.

21. (23), Ryan Welch, 12th -- Pine Crest = Welch is coming off of a season best 16:39 to finish 71st in the Elite Race at FSU two weeks ago. With some extra time to rest up, watch for the season to push into the top 20 in the coming weeks.

22. (NR), Enrique Jiminez, 12th -- Labelle = Jiminez ran 16:39 to place 3rd at Disney this past weekend in the 2A boys division. Jiminez is putting himself in top 25 position as we head down the homestretch.

23. (14), Alejandro Ruiz, 12th -- Immokalee = Ruiz ran 16:54 in the Elite Race at FSU two weeks ago placing 96th. He came back with a ferocious 16:32 to win the Collier County Championship. You cannot count this guy out, he may come ready to surprise the field in November.

24. (21), Omar Figueroa, 12th -- Labelle = Figueroa ran 16:44 to finish 4th behind teammate Enrique Jiminez at Disney in the 2A boys division this past weekend. That's a season best for the senior looking to make some noise in Region 3 in a few weeks.

25. (NR), Joel Lacy, 12th -- Calvary Christian = Lacy deserves to be on this list for obvious reasons. Recently, the senior has stepped up finishing 5th in the 2A boys division at Disney in a time of 16:45. He has continued to get faster and faster and he also cannot be counted out of anything in the next few weeks.

Notable name(s) left off:

Leonal Ochoa did not run the Hillsborough County Championship yesterday. As we cannot be sure of his status moving forward, Ochoa should be a top 20 guy if he runs in the next few weeks.

3A Boys Rankings

Team Rankings:

Commentary: This division has proved me wrong. Leon has made me look foolish & Its not a 2 team race. I still think Belen has it under control but not by the margin I once ranked. Congrats to those teams who have made this more interesting than I thought. In the past 2 weeks many of these teams have beat and lost to each other making it very difficult to call. I believe (now) 3 teams have a chance to win and 6 have a chance to come on the podium.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region = Comments

1. (1) Belen Jesuit, 4 = Belen stays in the top spot. Even though the lost within their classification, it was only by 8 points. The faster 5 and Lopez not having an ideal day (not to mention Zayas still not back) leads me to believe that in a State meet type of race they come out victorious. 16:30 Avg The also won the JOB in Miami with a 16:44 avg. this is much more indicative of how fast they are. This is 1 sec faster than their time at JOB last year. Lopez was their #2 here. 16:30 AVG

2. (3) Chiles HS, 1 = 6th at PreState. 8 pts ahead of Belen. They jumped that (perceived) gap that I stated was a drop in tier in the preseason rankings (poor job by me) Strong performance by there 3 & 4. They took the second week off. 16:30 AVG *I know they beat Belen but the margin and circumstances has them in 2nd in my mind*.

3. (2) Creekside, 1 = They ran without Deal at PreStates and came in 12th, 6s avg slower than Belen & Chiles. With Deal being their 4th like he did @Bronco Classic I have them dropping 18 pts which put them 15 points behind the leaders. If Deal starts making a strong comeback it's going to be interesting 16:36 AVG

4. (5) Leon HS, 1 = Keep moving up and making me look foolish. I had them 15 in the preseason and look at them now--Good work. The best 1-2 punch of the group. They lead but the back 3 coming in before 17:30 is where the difference is. 16:48 AVG

5. (4) Bartram Trail, 1 = This is interesting. They lost to the 4 ahead of them at PreStates but then comeback @Bronco Classic and beat Creekside handedly (with Deal running). I've got to go head to head on the state course on this one but they are in the mix. 16:58 AVG

6. (9) Fort Myers HS, 3 =If Ft Myers can be 2pts off of BT and they can beat Creekside, that causes major problems to the rankings. They lost to BT at every position but 1 at Pre States. 16:58 AVG

7. (7) Ocala Vangaurd, 2 = Ran @West Orange Invite and put their top 4 sub 17:00. It's going to come down to health to see if they can make it on the podium.

8. (8) Gainesville, 2 = 17:40 @ Bronco Classic and 4th place but way behind BT & Creeekside. 17:05 AVG at Buchholz Classic and the win. 1-5 57 secs.

Teams contending for 9-12

9. (8) New Smyrna Beach, 2 = 25th at FSU. 17:10 AVG

10. (6) Niceville, 1 = Came in last @PreStates and 2nd @Panhandle. 35s gap 1-5 which is great but having it headed by a 17:00 causes problems. That scored 84 at last years state meet. Packs got to keep moving up.

11. (11) Viera, 4 = Beat out New Smyrna Beach @ FLR16.

12. (N/A) Merritt Island, 4 = 1 point off New Smyrna & beat Niceville @ FSU. But as I said last week, at a state meet they'll presumably fall behind them because of the make up of the race. Their best runner not being able to improve also locks them in back here.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: FSU is the best gauge we'd get of head to head comp. Many of the teams only ran once in the past two weeks. Cross is the best in the state. And there seems to be 4-5 guys battling for the 2 spot. Again, still waiting for some guys to step up into from slow starts. Had a few guys break into the top 15.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade -- Team = Time / Comments

1. (1) Steven Cross, 12-- Merritt Island HS = 15:21 victory at FSU. Saw him make a move to the front with ½ mi to go and looked decisive. Great rebound win after the loss at FRL16.

2. (4) Matthew Clark, 11 -- Creekside HS = 16:49 @ Prestate & seemed to run with his teammate at Bronco Classic.

3. (9) Marshal Dillon, 12 -- Charlotte HS = 15:53 @FSU Dropped 40+secs from UF.

4. (3) Joshua Collins, 10 --Belen Jesuit Preparatory School = 15:55 @PreState & won the JOB going sub 16 on the difficult course. Solo.

5. (6) Blake Lowery, 12 -- Gainesville HS = Another win under his belt @Buchholz by 24secs. 3 wins this year.

6. (8) Matthew Cashin, 11 -- Leon HS = Big step up @FSU. 15th overall. Racing every other week seems to be in his favor.

7. (7) Jaime Lopez, 12 --Belen Jesuit Preparatory School = 16:32 @FSU but a16:29 @L&P and 3rd overall. Tams number 2 as he should be. Seems to be coming back.

8. (10) Austin Dodson, 12 -- Chiles = 16:11 @ FSU. Chiles' front runner. Came in 32, 2 ses in front of Adam & Josh at the ARP . 6 secs off his PR.

9. (11) Adam Wallenfelsz, 12 -- Leon HS = 16:13 @ FSU. Racing every other week.

10. (N/A) Josh Kennedy, 11 --Ft Myers = Hasn't been on my rankings all year even though he's been sub 17 since the first race of the season. His 16:12 @FSU is note worthy. Keep surprising.

11. (9) Nicholas Roca, 12 -- Belen Jesuit Preparatory School = 16:14 @FSU. Lopez back in the mix should help him.

12. (11) Michael Phillips, 10 -- Chiles HS = 16:14 @ FSU.

13. (4) Joseph Storey, 11 -- Creekside HS = 16:25 @FSU & 16:30 @Bronco. He's been around 16:30 the majority of the year.

14. (13) Jordan Bubar, 12 -- Bartram Trail = 16:20@FSU & 16:31 @ Bronco. Big head to head week with Storey.

15. Jonathan Jackson, 12 -- Nease = Didn't run FSU but placed 10th at Bronco classic. Had 4 from his classification in front ofhim

16. (N/A) Matthew Newland, 10 -- Chiles HS = Dropped a minute @ FSU. Impressive.

4A Boys Rankings

Team Rankings:

Rank. Team- Comments

1. St. Thomas Aquinas- Team average 16:36 @ FSU.. I believe STA may possibly be an unstoppable force with Coach Butler back at helm. It appears that if STA shows up on Nov 7 they should be handed the trophy.
2. Sarasota- Has improved every week and may be able to put together a run at the podium. They will need a similar performance like they had at Pre-State in order to compete with STA and Lyman..Team Average 16:36@ FSU
3. Lyman- Team Average 16:44 without its #4@ FSU.. It is very difficult for me not to put Lyman in the first slot but I must give credit to the above two teams. Lyman has found itself a #5 in Kyler Hodges and it seems he will take them to the Podium on Nov 7.
4. HB Plant- Team Average 16:54 @ FSU… I am the first to admit: " I was wrong".. Plant Is definitely a contender in 2015.. If they can stay healthy Plant can be the dark horse in 2015…
5. Coral Reef- Team Average 16:54 @ FSU.. The reef has been working its way up the rankings… The barracudas seem to be getting in shape at the perfect time… Watch out if they find a true #5..
6. Winter Springs- Team Average 17:01 @ FSU… Springs has fallen off the map… They came out swinging in 2015 taking out the defending Champs, but since then it seems they have stabilized and will fall short from a podium finish on Nov 7
7. George M. Steinbrenner- Team Average 17:02 @ FSU… The team has finished between 1-3 in every race they have competed in 2015. If you wish to wait till November to see if the Steinbrenners are legitimate it may be to late…. They can make a run at a podium finish if they can find a #5.
8. Lake Mary- Team Average 17:04 @ FSU…. Pack running has moved Lake Mary up the rankings.. If they continue to run as they did at FSU and Lake Nona.. We have a contender for a podium finish in 4A.
9. Columbus- Team Average 17:05 @ FSU… It's now or never…. it's been 4 years since the Hellions have been on the podium… They have all the weapons to finish in the top 2 slots, but unfortunately they keep falling down the rankings… The hellions have the fire power but they need to be able to put it together all on the same day..
10. John A Ferguson- Team Average 17:07 @ FSU… the Falcon clinch the final spot in the top 10. I believe the Falcons fall short of a podium finish because of the lack of a true top 10 front runner... They are in a similar boat as Steinbrenner they have a great pack but need big things from its #5 without a true front runner..
11. Freedom- Team Average 16:58 @ West Orange
12. Dr. Phillips- Team Average 17:17 @ FSU
13. Winter Park- Team Average 17:17 @ West Orange
14. Olympia- Team Average 17:27 @ FSU
15. Flagler Palm Coast- 2nd at Seminole Invite without #1
16. Oviedo- Team Average 17:18 @ West Orange
17. Mandarin- Team Average 17:21 @ FSU
18. Newsome- 1st at Don Bishop Invitational
19. Spanish River- 1st place at PBC South Conference Championship
20. Buchholz- 2nd Place at Buchholz Bobcat XC Classic
