JAC Head North To North Carolina For Taste Of Indoor Track AT NCRunners Holiday Invitational

Sunshine State athletes will have to wait nearly a month and a half before Florida hosts its first indoor and only indoor meet, Jimmy Carnes, at the University of Florida. However, the Jacksonville Athletic Club (JAC) is taking their own initiative and heading north to North Carolina for an early taste at competition on the oval. Coach Eli Sunquist says the following athletes will be competing on Saturday at the  NCRunners Holiday Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Girls

Holly Weber (Bolles)- 300m, LJ, TJ
Elizabeth Crosby (Providence)- 300m, 55mH
Sam Stelmaszek (Middleburg)- 55m, LJ, TJ, PV
Caroline Johnston (Episcopal)- 55mH, LJ, TJ, PV
Makenzie Simonson (Nease)- 55mH, 500m

He adds that for a majority of those kids competing this weekend, it will be their first ever indoor meet experience.

"
All of these athletes have trained really hard this fall, and I wanted to be able to give them an opportunity to compete before the Christmas break.  No matter how they do, I am excited to see how they compete, and give them this experience.  We like going up to this meet because the meet management at JDL do a great job putting on a really well run meet.  I am expecting some great results in the horizontal jumps, hurdles, and pole vault."

Last year, the JAC had some great performance with current UNC freshman Nicole Greene clearing a then US#1 5'10 in the high jump and leaping a then US#5 38'-0.5"in the triple jump. Current JU Freshman Brittany Bowald won the triple jump with a then US#2 mark of 38'8.5" from a short approach while former Bishop Kenny vaulter David Bell tied a then personal best in the pole vault with a then US#5 mark of 15'6".
