Lake Brantley frosh Jordan Stevens took the lead for the first two laps with tours of 71.1 and 83.7(2:34.8) closely being tracked by Pine Crest's Simone Vreeland and Wharton's Bryanna Rivers. An 81.6 gave Vreeland a gap over the field and looking like she'd be an easy winner.
Shorecrest Prep's Olivia Rovin made it interesting, closing on Vreeland from the 1200m to 1400m and looking full of run. Rovin, a cancer survivor, was profiled by our own Todd Grasley last year and an inspiring speaker (see here) began to run out of steam over the next fifty meters as Creekside's Kaitlin Rocker and then Rivers sped by. But nothing was going to stop Vreeland who extended her lead winning in a personal best of 5:12.17 to take the title- 2.74 seconds faster then her third place finish at FSU last weekend. Rivers finished best of the pack and was treated to a 5.28 second personal best of 5:14.30. Rovin finished third in a 6....
