Someone asked me today when does the track season and the summer end? My response "it ends?" With the Olympic Trials in the books many of those same Florida athletes who competed at Hayward Field at the beginning of the month will push on at this weekend's NACAC Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Kendal Williams- 100m Dash - Fresh off making the finals in the 200m at the Olympic Trials where he finished 7th and made it to the semifinals in the 200m dash, Williams now at Georgia, will take his 10.06 wind-legal PR against another athlete with Seminole ties Cejhae Greene who has a PR of 10.01 and is representing Antigua and Barbados.
Jeremiah Green - Triple Jump - The former New Balance Nationals champion and Florida state champion who leaped over 50 feet as a senior in high school is the second seed behind Eric Sloan of the United States who has jumped 17.02m.
Shayla Sanders- 100m Dash - Sanders kicked off 2016 with one of the fastest times in the world, 11.13s, but was unable to come back to early season form, failing to make the finals at the NCAA Championships after finishing third in the semifinals. Sanders ran 11.32 at the Trials and has the fastest time in the field slightly ahead of Jamaica's Sashalee Forbes (11.17).
Deanna Hill - 4x100m Relay - Hill was 6th at the NCAA Championships in the 100m dash where she tied a personal best of 11.21s and ran 11.36 at the Olympic Trials. The former Lake Highland Prep standout and current USC Trojan was 7th in the 200m at the NCAA Championships and 13th at the Olympic Trials. She'll compete in the 4x100m relay on a loaded team USA.
Robin Reynolds - 200m Dash - Reynolds is one of the winningest athletes in Florida state meet history with fourteen titles. The current Florida Gator will compete in the 200m dash and likely a relay for Team USA and is seeded second Kali Davis-White of Jamaica.
Kali Davis-White - 200m Dash - Davis-White was a teammate of Sanders at Boyd Anderson High School and recently transferred from Florida State to the University of Tennessee. Her 22.95 will be the biggest threat to Reynolds. Davis-White was recently named to the Jamaican Olympic Team as well which is a huge honor for the youngster who graduated high school just three years ago.
Shakima Wimbley- 400m Dash - Wimbley and teammate Jaide Stepter own the two fastest times of 50.90 and 50.91 respectively and are the only athletes in the field to have run under 51 seconds this season. Wimbley was the ACC Champion, and third at NCAA's.
Ebony Morrison - 100m Hurdles - The University of Miami hurdler was 3rd at the ACC Championships and ran a personal best of 12.76 at the NCAA East preliminaries. Her time ranks second behind only Jasmine Quinn of Puerto Rico's 12.69. Quinn, who attends the University of Kentucky, was the NCAA Champion in this event.
Darrielle McQueen - Triple Jump - Florida sophomore Darrielle McQueen is seeded third in the triple jump. McQueen was 5th at the NCAA Championships and recently completed at the Olympic Trials in Oregon.
Monique Griffiths - Hammer Throw - The Nova High School class of 2012 graduate competed collegiately for Cal State Northridge and is the top seed in the field of 65.60m where she was 7th at the NCAA D1 West Preliminary in 2015. Only two others have thrown over the 60m mark including Becky Famurewa of the United States (64.55m)
Clairwin Dameus- Heptathlon- Dameus who graduated from Santaluces High School in 2012 and is a senior at Tennessee State University, was 23rd at the NCAA D1 National Championships in 2016 and has a personal best of 5,729 which is second best in the field behind teammate Taliyah Brooks' 5,991 points.
