Gators Split Squad, Good Showing at Both Meets

University of Florida's Josh Walker won the collegiate 60m hurdles in 7.75 at the Verizon Millrose Games in New York City Friday. Candice Scott won the weight throw at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb., re-setting her own collegiate record with a throw of 23.00m/75-5.50.

Scott was named the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite Most Valuable Field Athlete.

Walker's winning mark of 7.75 was just .02 seconds off his own school record time in the event. Teammate Ahmad Jasmine finished fourth in the collegiate 60m dash in 6.79. The women's 4x400m relay team also competed at the Millrose Games but did not finish the race after Kamille Bratton suffered a mishap on the anchor leg.

In Nebraska, Scott broke her own former collegiate record of 22.82m/74-10.50 set two weeks ago. Her mark also set a new meet record. LaQuanda Cotten finished second with a mark of 20.73m/68-00.25. Jukina Dickerson (20.32m/66-8.00) finished fourth and Rachel Longfors (19.32m/63- 4.75) rounded out the top five in the event.

Kim Barrett won the shot put with a school record and personal best mark of 17.73m/58-2.00. Karen Freberg added an automatic qualifying mark with her third-place throw of 16.51m/54-02.00, and Cotten finished fourth with a provisional qualifying mark of 16.29m/53-05.50.
