Boys Field Event Athlete Of The Year: Jarez Parks

Sebastian River's Jarez Parks was known as a monster football player and ranked as one of the top recruits in the country. However, when he was in the circle, Parks went into beast mode as well unleashing massive throws in the discus and shot put, ending the season as the state leader in both events. For that reason, he is our Boys Field Event Athlete of the Year.

In the discus, the University of Alabama football signee, was virtually untouchable. Parks went undefeated in 2016 including his second straight 2A state championship. As a senior,  he won ten of eleven meets and his third title with a new state record and US#5 mark of 210-5. The throw broke the previous record of 203-4 set by Charlotte High School's Wesley Stockbarger in 2004.

Parks' success continued in the shot put as well.  He won the first five meets of the season before placing runner-up at the Bulldog Preview and Florida Relays. Being the competitor that he is, Parks rattled off four straight wins including his first state title after finishing second in 2016. His mark of 58-1 was a new season best and the best in Florida for 2017.
