It's all about the "Q" for Jenny Simpson. She took to Twitter on Friday to announce her excitement on making it past the first round of the women's 1,500m at the World Championship in London.
Simpson, a former Florida high school standout and golden girl, won her 4th USA 1,500m Championship in June. She wasted no time establishing herself as the top American and a threat to the rest of the world, finishing second in her heat with a time of 4:08.92, four one-hundredths behind Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.
The Olympic bronze medalist from Rio in 2016, and two-time world championship medalist, continued to live another day at Saturday's semifinals. Simpson dropped three seconds off her time to go 4:05.40 and finish fourth and qualify for Monday's final.
Simpson, who last won World Championship gold in Daegu in 2011, has the fifth best PR in the field (3:57.22) behind, Faith Chepngetich Kipeygon (3:56.41) Sifan Hassan (3:56.22), Laura Muir (3:55.22), and Genzebe Dibaba (3:50.07). The final is set for Monday.
