Swoop Swoop! Freedom's Timothy Doyle Decides To Stay Home & Run For UNF

Freedom senior Timothy Doyle has ended his recruitment. Doyle, who is the two-time defending 4A state champion in the 1,600, called the process a very exciting experience

"I made sure to take it all in because this is a once in a lifetime experience," Doyle explained. At times it was stressful and felt stretched out but I made sure to relax and enjoy making my college decision. Going on official visits and keeping contact with coaches through social media and calling them was my favorite part of the recruiting process."

He took unofficial visits to Michigan, Columbia, UF and Wake Forest as well as officials to FSU, Ohio State, and UNF. In the end, he decided to stay in state and become a North Florida Osprey.

"When I went to my official at UNF, one of the biggest things that I noticed was the bond that the guys had," he said. "For me that is really important because my cross team had a similar bond my freshman and sophomore years."

Another important factor for Doyle was the coaching staff and the environment on campus.

"I love how they worked with their athletes," he added. "A coach like Coach Pigg is somebody I want to be around and I believe that he will lead me to success over the next four years. Another plus, was that campus felt like home."

The Patriots' standout is not shy about his preference of track over cross country, but he has no qualms about doing both at the next level. He owns personal bests of 1:53.64 for 800 meters and 4:15.42 for 1,600 meters, but has run 15:50 for 5k and was 8th at last year's Cross Country Finals.

"I will be doing both cross country and track next year," he said. "Personally, I wanted to sign in the fall to ensure that my track season would be fun and stress-free. I want to PR in the 800, 1600,  and run the 3200 after a two year hiatus. Hopefully I can win another state championship in the 1,600 and get one in the 800 as well."

Doyle gave thanks to God, his family, and friends for believing in him every single day throughout his journey and is looking forward to the next chapter in his running career.

I can't wait to say "swoop" at anytime and be on a very successful team with a great group of guys," he exclaimed.
