Trevor Foley Finishes Runner-Up Behind Flo 50 #7 Dustin Horter In Kentucky

Trevor Foley woke up hours before the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky feeling great. No nerves. No worries. Just ready to run. He had crushed the workouts leading up to this day and having escaped Hurricane Irma's devastation in Florida, Foley was ready to test his skills against the best in the nation.

"The gun goes off and everyone starts off flying," Foley explained. "After about 600 meters there was about a pack of 10 chasing Dustin (Horter) who was ranked #7 in the Flo 50 rankings. Then 1k in they slowed up and I started trying to pull Dustin in and I did at the mile marker."

Foley admits he prematurely took the lead at the mile and carried it to the two mile mark. At 2.1 miles Horter, who was 30th at Nike Cross Nationals, opened up a gap and crossed the line in 15:02.30. The Citrus Park Christian senior finished second in 15:21.10, the second fastest time of his high school career.

"I am very very pleased with this performance," he said. "I was able to hang with Dustin and finish closely behind him on such a hard course and I beat so many sub 15 guys and sub 9:10 3,200 guys. It's my first major cross country race and it went awesome."

The race boosted Foley's confidence. He now realizes even more that he can race with not just Horter, but whoever comes calling. He's looking forward to getting back with his team and running on some faster courses in the state like North Port and FSU.

"I know I can push 14:59 at North Port," Foley told us. "The only hard thing is I don't think there is that much competition there, but definitely at FSU I'm going for that record. I've got to keep working hard but I am very excited as to where I stack up with the nation's best right now. It's back to the grind though!"
