Vote: Boys Track And Field Athlete Of The Week

FSU Relays highlighted the distance events of the past week but it was the Greater Miami and Broward County Championships that dominated in the sprints. Although some notable athletes took off before competing at the Pepsi Relays, there was still a slew of US #1 and FL #1 marks to more than impress the spectators of Florida track and field. About The Nominees:

Demarcus Adams- The FSU football signee continues to gain attraction in so many different events this year as he had the best week's mark in the long jump at the Spruce Creek Developmental Meet with a mark of 7.22 meters. And then he came back to win the FSU Relays long jump and was a part of the Mainland HS Sprint Medley Team that won the SMR at the FSU Relays. 

Melvin Briley- It was another dominating performance paired with a perfect picture (see cover photo) and a FL #1 mark in the triple jump for the senior from Oakleaf HS. Briley won the UNF Pre-State Meet with a mark of 48-1.25. The USF signee showed yet again that he is the best triple jumper in the Sunshine State.   

Hugh Brittenham- This kid just can't get enough of US #1 times as he beat his previous US #1 time in the 800m this weekend at the FSU Relays, as won in a time of 1:51.92. The junior from Estero HS won the 800 and 1600m this weekend to set the FL #1 time in the 1600 with a 4:12.02 to go along with his US #1 in the 800.  

Tyler Harrell- A newcomer to this list, the senior from Christopher Columbus HS set the best 100m mark of the week with a time of 10.59, on his way to winning the GMAC South 100m dash. Harrell also had the #2 best time in the 200m this week as he also won the event in a time of 21.62. 

Amari Johnson- The junior from Hallandale HS had a long week of hurdles as he won the BCAA South Qualifier and the BCAA Championships in the 300 hurdles. Johnson set the week's best mark in the 300 hurdles at the BCAA Championships in a time of 37.75. The best hurdler in Broward County is always a major achievement. 

Bryson Kirksey- The Bolles HS junior has been consistently getting better in the high jump this year, and he really caught the attention of many this past week as he won the high jump at the ESJ Prince and Sibil Zachariah  Invitational. Kirksey set the week's best high jump mark that also gained him the #2 FL mark for the year with a jump of 2-09 meters. 

Jacob Lemmon- Another US #1 was taken by a Florida athlete as Lemmon took the top spot in the country with a monster discus throw of 193-3. The junior from Fort Myers HS took sole advantage of getting to throw on the national stage as he has emerged as one of the best discus throwers in the country. 

Cameron Leiba- The junior from Dillard HS set the best 200m dash time of the week in FL as he won the BCAA North Qualifier in a time of 21.50. Leiba swept the 100 and 200 at the BCAA North Central Qualifier and then came back three days later to win the BCAA Championship in the 200m in a time of 21.88. 

Noah Mumme- The senior from Satellite HS enjoyed the national spotlight as he finished 2nd in the pole vault at the FSU Relays. Mumme vaulted 15-9 in less attempts then Stone Baker who also jumped 15-9, to take second place behind the senior from Hoover HS (Alabama). Mumme cemented his case for top FL pole vaulter as he now holds the slight advantage in the head-to-head battle with Baker.  

Michael Phillips- The distance stud from Chiles HS continued his quality track season as he finished in 2nd place at the FSU Relays in the 3200 with a state leading time of 8:54.62. He was nudged by Jacob McLeod from GA who set the US #1 3200 meter time with a 8:52.70. Phillips, the Syracuse signee, also finished 2nd in the 1600 with a solid time of 4:13.00.

The senior from Fleming Island HS led the charge for the top 3200 time of the weekend as he took the win at the Friday Knight Invite. Fuller, a qualifier for the 2017 4A 3200m State Championship, turned in a personal best as he raced to a 9:41.26.
