Salute to Seniors: Deiondre Williams

Before the class of 2019 makes their final farewells to high school cross country and track and field, we want to give everyone a chance to salute them one more time! FLRunners invites all seniors to tell their stories from the past four years.

Today we salute Homestead senior, Deiondre Williams.

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?

My most memorable race was FHSAA 4A Regional, I had a little doubt about placing top four to make it to states as an individual for the first time, I was nervous the whole race and experience pain during the six lap but I kept pushing and placed third and Pr'd by twenty one seconds breaking ten minutes.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition over my fours years in high school would have to be people who talked trash. I barley knew names but I can say anytime I raced my brother Damauri Little I had to beat(sometimes I was successful).

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was breaking 17 and dominating cross my senior year.

Who would you consider your biggest role model over your four years competing?

I would consider my brothers Carlin, Quinton, Austin, Eddie my mother and especially my coach they always keep everything positive and want me to be great.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running or field career in high school?

This is tough with me being so loyal to a great coach, but if I could change some things I'd probably go win a state championship with Belen Jesuit.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome? How did you overcome them?

My most difficult obstacles were either mentally and listening. My support system helped me with the mental part and I just had to listen to my coach cause I knew it would work (and look I've accomplished a lot listening to my coach).

What will you miss the most?

I'll miss my teammates, the "turnt" meets and the rivalry against South Dade.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

What ever your coach is telling you Listen it will take you a long way.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach, Alvarez, has everything to do with how I perform, he puts his time in everyday and he doesn't miss practices at all, he'll be on crutches and say "It's one foot I got another now let's get to work". He's always kept it real and been on me since the first day I met him.

What are your post-high school or college plans?

I will be attending Highland Community College on a track and cross country scholarship.

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

I would like to first off thank god for showing me to the sport. I also thank my mom for being here through it all. My coach for always believing in me. My brothers for always encouraging me. And last I want to thank everyone who supported my throughout these four years.
