Stephy Ormsby and Liam Holston defended their Fort Myers home turf this weekend at the Fort Myers XC Invitational.
Ormsby Sets New PR, Kempf Leads Sarasota Sailors to Victory
Ormsby ran home with the varsity girls win in a smoking time of 19:03 -- a new PR for the senior. Both Ormsby and Jessica Edwards were the lone ladies under the 20 minute barrier on the Kelly Road Soccer Complex course.
Marissa Kempf finished third as Sarasota's top athlete to lead her team to victory with 64 points -- besting Fort Myers by 13 points.
Holston Leads Fort Myers to Victory Over Naples, Barnhart Breaks Out Amongst Crowd
On the boys side, Holston lead the Fort Myers boys with an individual win in a time of 17:08. The junior took off 20 seconds from his performance in late August and will look to dip down under that 17 minute barrier very this season.
Alexander Rodriguez lead the Naples boys with a second place finish in a time of 17:23. Immokalee freshman, Bernardo Barnhart, had a breakout race this year running a time of 17:24 to finish third overall.
Barnhart is no stranger to the spotlight, finishing 8th in the 3000m run at the FLYRA Middle School State Championship earlier this spring. He has opened up his freshman season and will be making big moves down in South West Florida.
Holston's win lead to a team win for Fort Myers over Naples HS -- a five point difference between the two teams.
Williamson, Bill Run Away With 3k Wins
The Elite Runner Fort Myers middle schoolers dominated in the middle school 3k division.
Elizabeth Williamson won the girls race in a time of 11:32 with Dahlia Mankovich of the Sota Distance Project, taking second in a time of 11:40.
Williamson's 11:32 is nearly a minute faster than her performance at her season opener at the Jim Ryun Invitational back in August. She is coming off a FLYRA Middle School State Championship runner-up finish in the 1500m this year and will be one to watch for in October at the FLYRA XC State Championship.
On the boys side, Elite Runner Fort Myers eighth graders, Brandon Bill and Trey Wagner, took the first two spots in 10:47 and 11:14. Jack Marshall of Elevate Training came in third in a close 11:14.1.
