Winborn, Tackling Take On FACA Senior All-Star Classic

After the banquet ceremonies on Friday night the FACA All-Stars were ready to race with their new teammates.

The North, South, East, West girls were the first to line up at Holloway Park on Saturday. From the gun it was Liina Winborn, Billie Castillo, Ariana Jimenez, and Elayna Bahr leading the charge up the first hill.

Winborn took the lead early before mile one with Castillo, Jimenez, and Bahr in chase pack through the first and second mile.

Last weekend at the state meet, Winborn finished fourth overall in the 3A girls race in a time of 18:11. She continued her consistent senior season with a FACA win with a time of 18:27. Her win led three other girls sub 19 minutes on the Holloway Park course with Bahr, Castillo, Jimenez, and Emma Solis rounding out the top five.

The East girls earned bragging rights over the West girls with the FACA team title with a three point margin. Led by Castillo and Jimenez who went sub 19 minutes, these ladies proved that the East are beast.

On the boys side, it was Zach Cloud and Justin Tackling that took the race out hot from the get go.

Tackling had the edge on Cloud running through the first mile, but Cloud made Tackling kick for the win in last 300m.

After finishing fourth for Nease last weekend in the 4A state meet in a time of 15:38, Tackling finished off his season with his first win of the season in a time of 15:48 after a tough injury earlier this year.

Cloud finished second with the only other time under the 16 minute barrier with a time of 15:55.

Team state champions, Josh King and John McKenzie rocked their races with 16:02 and 16:07 performances which led to a wild West win by a 20 point margin over the East team.
