These meet fields assembled for Saturday morning at Dunbar High School are special and arguably wide open. The boys' mile field alone has 18 of the top 21 ranked milers in the state currently, but one runner in the field appears to have some special momentum going into the race in Belen Jesuit senior Javier Vento.

Last week, Vento ran a pair of personal bests including a 9:06 state-leading 3200-meter time in a small home weekday meet at Belen Jesuit, while finished off the week strong with a devasting finishing kick to win the 800 at IMG Spring Break Invite in a 1:54 PR.

The two-time FHSAA 3A state cross country champion in 2018 and 2020, Vento has yet to run a fast 1600 or mile time this season as his 1600 meter best of 4:11 comes from his last outdoor race of 2020 before the coronavirus shut down last March.

Vento is certainly one of more than a handful of guys in the field capable of grabbing the win as well as a sub 4:10 performance. The University of Florida commit will be seeking a win, but more importantly wants to run a fast time which he hopes the other top runners in the field, as well as a high school pacer thru the first 800 meters, will all be on the same page to do that.
