Eddiyah Frye with 100-meter hurdles world record holder and Miramar race winner Kendra Harrison.

St. Thomas Aquinas senior Eddiyah Frye got a rare and special opportunity on Saturday at the World Athletics Meet in Miramar, Florida right in her backyard to compete with top U.S. and international professional athletes. The current top-ranked high school hurdler in the entire country for all-conditions at 13.14 as well as wind-legal at 13.52, Frye clocked her second-fastest performance ever to only her 13.14 at the Louie Bing Classic back in February with another fast wind-aided effort at 13.30 to finish 11th in the prelims.

Frye with reigning World men's 110-meter hurdles champion and World indoor 60 hurdles record holder Grant Holloway.

We got a chance to interview Frye on Saturday night after her race to talk about the experience of competing at that level, a chance to meet and mingle with the professional athletes before including some photo ops with many of her idols in the sport, and some of top rivalries with other top Florida prep hurdlers including indoor national champ Lucheyona Weaver as well as her teammate Lucheyona Weaver.

Also discussed being part of the storied St. Thomas Aquinas program and what is in store for championship season including her district meet coming up on Tuesday, which will be LIVE streamed right here on flrunners.com and MileSplit.com.
