Timber Creek's Amber Schulz will make her return to racing again on Saturday at the Mike Gibson Summertime Run after the defending 4A state cross country champion missed virtually the entire 2021 outdoor season due to injury.
The Timber Creek girls are one of the top returning teams in 4A led by reigning individual state champ Amber Schulz and will be favorites to win the team competition at Lake Mary High School with a 19:48 average for their returnees. The Timber Creek head coach Julie Halsey is actually a graduate of Lake Mary. Dr. Phillips, Oviedo, and West Orange appear to be the next strong teams in a field of 22.
Ella Klyce of West Orange is the next fastest individual in the field with a 19:28 PR, while Dr. Phillips has a duo of girls that have run in the 19-minute range between Jasmine Little and Hannah Claytor. Timber Creek's #2 runner Vivian Byrnes could potentially go 1-2 with teammate Schulz as well.
There are 4 entrants in the boys' race ran sub 17 minutes for 5K last fall with Joel McConnell of Dr. Phillips, Lash Bradshaw of Lake Minneola, Kevin Miranda of Lake Mary, and Tavin Bradshaw of Lake Minneola.
The Bradshaw twins will attempt to go 1-2 together as a household. It would also be special for Lake Mary senior Miranda to win his home meet going out as a senior. McConnell has the fastest 5K PR among the top contenders at 16:23 from last year's Metro Conference Champs.
Live results of the meet will be provided by Elite Timing on milesplit.live.
Reminder to coaches - athletes should NOT wear their uniforms for this race since it is a preseason classic.
